Asian Paints has invested Rs 1,305 crore to double the production capacity at its Mysuru plant. Now, the plant can produce 600,000 KL of paint per year. This brings the company’s total annual production capacity to 2,150,000 KL. The Mysuru plant started in 2018 with a capacity of 300,000 KL per year and is now running at about 78% capacity.
The company received approval from the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board for this expansion. This increase will help meet medium-term needs.
Other Expansions
Asian Paints is also expanding its Ankleshwar plant, expected to finish this year. Plants in Kasna and Khandala are also increasing capacity. These expansions will bring the total production capacity to 2,270,000 KL per year.
Additionally, a new water-based paint facility in Madhya Pradesh with a 400,000 KL annual capacity is planned for completion by 2028.
Industry Growth
The organized paints sector in India is expected to nearly double its production capacity to 7.8 billion litres per year by 2027. This growth includes investments of around Rs 19,000 crore. This year alone, about 2.4 billion litres of new capacity will be added.
In February, the Aditya Birla Group launched its paints business, Birla Opus, with six manufacturing units aiming for a capacity of 1,332 million litres, aspiring to become the country’s second-largest player within three years.
