Acme India Industries Limited has expanded its presence in railway manufacturing, moving from passenger amenity products to integrated coach furnishing, refurbishment and modernisation solutions. Established in 2013 as a proprietorship business, the company began by addressing hygiene and sanitation needs in Indian Railways coaches. Its early products included soap dispensers, automatic hygiene and odour-control dispensers, and tissue-paper dispensers. Over time, its portfolio grew to include Braille signage, fire-retardant epoxy flooring, doors and other coach interior solutions.

The company has gradually developed its capabilities across the railway coach lifecycle, covering component manufacturing, turnkey furnishing of new coaches, refurbishment of existing coaches, mid-life rehabilitation and toilet modernisation. Since 2017, Acme has completed turnkey furnishing projects for more than 1,600 coaches, refurbished over 1,900 coaches and upgraded more than 11,000 passenger train toilets. This expansion reflects its move towards providing integrated solutions rather than supplying individual products.

Acme India’s growth has been shaped by changing requirements across the railway sector. The transition from conventional ICF coaches to LHB coaches and newer-generation trains such as Vande Bharat has increased the focus on passenger comfort, hygiene, safety, accessibility and modern interiors. These developments are creating demand for well-engineered components, lightweight materials, modular interior systems and solutions that are easier to maintain. At the same time, refurbishment and modernisation remain important for the large fleet of coaches already in service.

Domestic manufacturing is another important part of the company’s approach. Acme manufactures interior components in India, including FRP products, aluminium-polymer composite sanitary ware, doors, seats and berths, snack tables, windows, luggage racks and metal-fabricated items. By developing in-house manufacturing capabilities, the company aims to meet railway requirements for safety, durability and consistent product quality while supporting the growth of India’s railway supply chain.

The railway sector also presents opportunities for Indian suppliers in engineering, turnkey project execution, refurbishment, maintenance and specialised technologies. Acme has developed business relationships with international companies from South Korea, Germany, the United States and Belgium in areas such as rolling stock maintenance, passenger information systems, flooring technology, composite materials and coating systems. These collaborations bring opportunities to combine domestic manufacturing capabilities with international technology and expertise.

Looking ahead, Acme India aims to build on its experience in coach furnishing, refurbishment and component manufacturing as railway and mobility requirements continue to evolve. The company’s focus on integrated solutions, indigenous manufacturing and global collaborations supports its efforts to serve new-generation trains as well as existing railway fleets. By expanding its capabilities across the coach lifecycle, Acme is positioning itself to address changing demands in India’s railway manufacturing ecosystem.
