Specialty chemicals company LANXESS and Hindustan Colas Private Limited (HINCOL) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore collaboration in advanced bitumen and asphalt modification technologies for India’s infrastructure sector. The partnership will establish a framework for joint technical evaluations, commercial trials and market development initiatives aimed at enhancing road quality, improving production efficiency and supporting more sustainable construction practices.
Under the agreement, the companies will jointly evaluate LANXESS’ Addipave® CR 36, an advanced cross-linking technology for Polymer Modified Bitumen (PMB) applications. The collaboration will include laboratory assessments and commercial-scale trials to examine the technology’s potential to improve production efficiency, product consistency and quality, operational safety and the performance of modified bitumen formulations.
LANXESS will contribute the technology, technical expertise and trial support, while HINCOL will provide testing facilities, operational assistance and performance assessments under Indian operating conditions. The joint evaluation is intended to establish the technology’s suitability for local requirements and identify opportunities for wider adoption across road construction projects.
The MoU also covers the evaluation and promotion of Addipave® WM 23, LANXESS’ Warm Mix Asphalt additive technology. Through joint trials and market development activities, the companies will assess opportunities to lower asphalt production and paving temperatures while maintaining required road performance standards. Potential benefits include reduced energy consumption, lower emissions, improved working conditions and enhanced sustainability throughout the paving process.
India’s expanding transportation infrastructure requires road construction solutions that combine durability, operational efficiency and environmental responsibility. By bringing together LANXESS’ expertise in specialty additives and formulation technologies with HINCOL’s experience in bitumen technology and road construction solutions, the collaboration aims to support the adoption of advanced pavement technologies suited to the country’s infrastructure needs.
Vince Patram, Global Head of Marketing, Business Unit Lubricant Additives at LANXESS, said the partnership would help the company expand its footprint in India’s asphalt applications market by developing solutions tailored to local requirements. Neelanjan Banerjee, Senior Vice President and Global Head of the Business Unit Lubricant Additives at LANXESS, highlighted the growing demand for technologies that improve road performance while supporting sustainability objectives. He said the collaboration would provide an opportunity to demonstrate the potential of Addipave® technologies in improving quality, efficiency and environmental performance.
Debashis Chakraverty, CEO and Director of HINCOL, said the partnership combines complementary expertise and would enable both organisations to evaluate technologies capable of enhancing pavement performance, strengthening sustainability and delivering long-term value to India’s road construction industry.
