Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) has outlined the performance features of the upcoming Hyundai BAYON, an Intelligent Utility Vehicle scheduled to launch in India on October 26, 2026. Bookings are now open at Hyundai dealerships and through the company’s website.
The BAYON will be powered by Hyundai’s four-cylinder 1.5-litre MPi petrol engine, which produces 84.4 kW (115 PS) of maximum power and 143.8 Nm of maximum torque. Customers will be able to choose between a six-speed manual transmission and an Intelligent Variable Transmission (iVT).
Hyundai said more than six lakh vehicles equipped with the same 1.5-litre MPi petrol engine have been sold by the company in India since 2020. The engine is used across multiple Hyundai models and is designed to deliver consistent performance for daily commuting and longer journeys.
The BAYON’s iVT variant will feature Dash Boost Mode, which provides quicker acceleration when additional response is required, particularly during overtaking. It will also include Sporty Drive Tech, designed to provide a more engaging acceleration experience.
Paddle shifters will allow drivers to adjust transmission response from the steering wheel. Three selectable drive modes—Eco, Normal and Sport—will enable drivers to adjust vehicle behaviour according to driving conditions and personal preferences. Eco mode focuses on fuel efficiency, Normal mode balances performance and efficiency, while Sport mode provides a more responsive driving experience.
Tarun Garg, Managing Director and CEO of Hyundai Motor India Limited, said the company’s approach to performance went beyond engine output and focused on how naturally a vehicle responds to drivers in everyday situations. He said the combination of the 1.5-litre petrol engine, iVT and other driving technologies was intended to provide a smooth and responsive experience across different road conditions.
Hyundai said the BAYON has been engineered for both urban and highway use. The engine and transmission are designed to support smooth operation in city traffic, while the available driving technologies aim to provide additional responsiveness during highway acceleration and overtaking. The performance package forms part of Hyundai’s “Intelligence That Moves” philosophy, which the company applies to the vehicle’s driving experience alongside its other features.
