Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) has announced the safety features of its upcoming Hyundai BAYON Intelligent Utility Vehicle. Built on the Global K Enhanced Platform, the vehicle is designed around a reinforced body structure, advanced driver assistance systems and a range of standard safety features.
The BAYON’s body structure uses 69% advanced multi-grade high-strength steel, incorporating hot-stamped steel, ultra-high-strength steel, advanced high-strength steel and high-strength steel. The structure is designed to manage crash energy and improve occupant protection through reinforced sections, multiple load paths and a ring-type structure.
Hot-stamped components are used in key areas, including the front apron, dashboard, rear floor and side reinforcements. Reinforced rear-floor side members are designed to improve protection in rear impacts, while the dual-box construction supports structural strength and helps limit cabin intrusion.
Hyundai said the BAYON has more than 80 advanced safety features, including over 35 features offered as standard across all variants. The standard equipment includes six airbags, electronic stability control, hill-start assist control, a tyre pressure monitoring system, emergency stop signal, three-point seatbelts with reminders, ISOFIX child-seat mounts and rear parking sensors.
The vehicle also features Hyundai SmartSense Level 2 Pro Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), comprising 23 driver assistance functions, three radars and 12 parking sensors. These systems are designed to support drivers in highway, city traffic, junction and parking situations.
Features include forward collision warning and avoidance assistance, lane keeping assistance, lane departure warning, blind-spot collision warning, rear cross-traffic collision warning and avoidance assistance, driver attention warning and safe exit warning. Highway-focused functions include highway driving assist, lane following assist and smart cruise control with stop-and-go capability.
The BAYON also offers a surround view monitor and blind-spot view monitor to improve visibility when manoeuvring. Navigation-based smart cruise control functions are designed to provide additional assistance on selected highway zones and curves.
Commenting on the safety package, Tarun Garg, Managing Director and CEO of Hyundai Motor India Limited, said the vehicle combines a reinforced body structure, high-strength steel construction and driver assistance technologies to provide a comprehensive safety system. He said the approach reflects the company’s focus on developing mobility solutions suited to Indian customers.
The BAYON will be powered by a four-cylinder 1.5-litre MPi petrol engine producing 84.4 kW (115 PS) and 143.8 Nm of torque. Transmission choices will include a six-speed manual and an Intelligent Variable Transmission (IVT). The vehicle will be offered in 10 exterior colour options across monotone, matte and dual-tone finishes. Further details on its launch and variant line-up are expected from Hyundai Motor India.
