ABB will present its latest measurement, automation and digital solutions for the paper industry at MIAC 2026, being held at the Lucca Exhibition Center in Italy from October 7 to 9. Visitors can meet the company at stand C3 to learn how its technologies can help paper manufacturers improve product quality, maintain stable production processes and increase machine efficiency.
Reliable process measurements play an important role in maintaining consistent paper quality, reducing web breaks and limiting unplanned downtime. At MIAC 2026, ABB will demonstrate solutions covering web tension, wastewater monitoring, water management, flow measurement and fibre refining.
A key highlight will be ABB’s web tension measurement technology based on Pressductor®. Designed for demanding paper mill conditions, the technology delivers accurate and stable measurements while withstanding vibration, temperature changes and mechanical overload. These capabilities help manufacturers maintain consistent paper quality, reduce web breaks and improve production reliability.
ABB will also showcase its UviTecâ„¢ BOD/COD monitoring solution, which measures biological oxygen demand, chemical oxygen demand and organic load in wastewater. The system provides information that can help mills manage wastewater treatment more effectively and support environmental compliance.
Another area of focus will be electromagnetic flow measurement for water and process liquids. Accurate flow data can help paper manufacturers monitor water use, manage resources and improve operational efficiency across production processes. The company will also present L&W Freeness and Fiber Online, a system that combines online measurement of freeness and fibre properties. By providing continuous information on dewatering conditions and fibre quality, the solution helps operators identify process variations at an early stage and adjust refining operations.
The system is designed to support closed-loop control, improve refining performance, manage energy consumption and increase machine runnability. It can also help reduce wet-end sheet breaks, allowing mills to maintain more stable production.
Nicola Mazzoleni, Regional Center Manager – Force Measurement, ABB Measurement & Analytics, said accurate and reliable measurement was essential for maintaining product quality and machine efficiency in paper manufacturing. He explained that continuous data on web tension, fibre refining, water and flow could help mills detect variations earlier and make better process decisions.
