Renault India has announced an ARAI-certified fuel efficiency of 29 km per litre for the new Duster strong hybrid E-Tech 160 ahead of its official market debut. Bookings for the SUV open on October 9, with customers able to reserve the vehicle for ₹21,000 through the Renault India website or authorised dealerships across the country.
The new Duster will be the first Renault model in India to feature the company’s E-Tech strong-hybrid technology. Its introduction marks a step in Renault’s electrification plans for the Indian market under its futuREady roadmap. The strong-hybrid powertrain combines a 1.8-litre petrol engine, two electric motors and a 1.4 kWh battery to deliver a combined output of 160 PS. An intelligent multi-mode transmission manages the interaction between the petrol engine and electric motors according to driving conditions.
The system can power the vehicle using electricity under suitable conditions, recover energy during braking and deceleration, and switch between electric and petrol propulsion. The battery charges while driving, removing the need for an external charging connection.
Renault said the combination of 160 PS and certified fuel efficiency of 29 km/litre is intended to appeal to SUV buyers seeking both performance and lower fuel consumption. The hybrid variant also offers an alternative for customers considering a petrol-electric vehicle instead of a diesel SUV.
Francisco Hidalgo, Vice President, Sales and Marketing, Renault Group India, said the company was bringing its E-Tech strong-hybrid technology from Europe to India to address the needs of local SUV customers. “Indian SUV customers should not have to choose between performance and fuel efficiency. With a combined output of 160 PS and an ARAI-certified fuel efficiency of 29 km/litre, the Duster strong hybrid E-Tech 160 brings both together in a versatile SUV, without requiring external charging,” Hidalgo said.
He added that the vehicle offers another option for customers looking for an alternative to diesel and that bookings were opening ahead of its official market debut. The new Renault Duster strong hybrid E-Tech 160 is scheduled for its official market debut and full reveal in India on October 17, 2026.
