Godrej Consumer Products Indonesia (GCPI), a subsidiary of India-based Godrej Consumer Products Limited (GCPL), has inaugurated the first phase of its new manufacturing facility at the Kendal Special Economic Zone in Indonesia. The facility is part of an IDR 500 billion investment, equivalent to around ₹250 crore, aimed at strengthening the company’s manufacturing footprint in Indonesia.
GCPI has been present in Indonesia since 2010. During this period, the business has grown 4.5 times, while its brands including HIT, Stella, Mitu and NYU now reach around one in four Indonesian households. The first phase of the Kendal facility has been developed across 2.5 hectares of GCPI’s 5.5-hectare site and is dedicated to Household Insecticides. The facility will increase local manufacturing capacity and support the company’s ability to serve the Indonesian market as well as export markets in the region.
The inauguration was attended by the Ambassador of India to Indonesia, the Deputy Governor of Central Java, the Regent of Kendal and a senior representative from Indonesia’s Ministry of Investment and Downstream Industry/BKPM, along with business partners, stakeholders and senior leaders from GCPL and GCPI.
Sandeep Chakravorty, Ambassador of India to Indonesia, said, “India and Indonesia share deep rooted historical and cultural ties, and there is tremendous potential to build an equally strong economic partnership. Godrej, one of India’s most prominent business houses, has been present in Indonesia since 2010. Its products have made significant impact in the Indonesian market due to quality and affordability. Its new manufacturing facility in Kendal is a concrete example of this partnership in action. The facility will serve both Indonesia and export markets, strengthening the connection between investment, manufacturing and trade.”
Aasif Malbari, Managing Director & CEO, Godrej Consumer Products Limited, said the investment would increase home and personal care category capacity by around 15%. “Indonesia is an important part of our business, and we believe there is significant headroom to grow. Kendal is a big step in that direction. Our IDR 500 billion investment in the new Indonesian plant will expand home and personal care categories capacity by approximately 15%. This expansion addresses current capacity utilization of 75-80%, positioning us to meet rising regional demand and scale. GCPI is truly an Indonesian company, and we believe this investment is in the interest of the economic development of this region and this country. Where we see opportunity, we do not shy away from investing. We also believe Kendal will become a platform for exports around the region,” he said.
Built in just over a year, the facility incorporates technology and data into its operations to improve visibility, decision-making and manufacturing efficiency. Rajesh Sethuraman, Business Head, Indonesia & Global Head, Business Transformation and Digital, GCPL, said the facility was designed to bring the company closer to consumer demand and support faster decisions and product innovation.
The facility also focuses on local capability building, inclusion, resource efficiency, energy monitoring, biodiversity and waste management. Vaibhav Ram, Global Head, Human Resources, GCPL, said the company aims for women to account for 50% of the workforce at the facility, while also creating opportunities for persons with disabilities.
