Energy In Motion Ltd (EIM) has inaugurated a heavy-duty battery swapping-cum-charging station at Rewari, Haryana, expanding its energy infrastructure for electric freight movement along the NH-48 Delhi-Mumbai corridor. The facility was inaugurated by Dr Hanif Qureshi, IPS, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Heavy Industries, Government of India. Mahendra Singhi, Board Member and Advisor, Dalmia Cement and Member, Board of Governors at NCCBM and TERI, attended as Guest of Honour. The event was also attended by Arun Kumar Khurana, Joint President and Head of Operations Logistics, UltraTech Cement; Manav Bansal, Co-founder and CEO, Drivn; and Narendra Murkumbi, Managing Director, Energy In Motion. Fleet owners, transporters, financiers, lenders, customers and other industry representatives were also present.

The Rewari station is part of EIM’s growing network of heavy-duty battery swapping-cum-charging stations along NH-48. The company already has facilities at Palwal and Kotputli. Each station has a connected load of 2.5 MW and is positioned to provide energy access close to important freight routes.

EIM’s battery-swapping system allows electric heavy commercial vehicles to replace discharged batteries with charged units, reducing vehicle downtime compared with conventional charging. The Rewari facility can swap the battery of an electric heavy commercial vehicle in about seven minutes, compared with 55-60 minutes of charging through a conventional charger, according to the company.

The station has the capacity to serve more than 150 vehicles a day. EIM said its battery-swapping system, combined with a 350 kWh battery, can help logistics service providers increase monthly return trips on a corridor by around 10%. Speaking on the inauguration, Narendra Murkumbi, Managing Director, EIM Ltd, said the Rewari station had been established to support more economical green logistics. He added that the company’s battery-swapping network was aimed at improving fleet availability and operating economics for heavy-duty electric vehicle users.

EIM plans to establish 40 such stations across India during the current financial year. Eight stations are already operational, while another seven are at various stages of installation. The company is also expanding its ‘Maitryi’ Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) model. Under the model, EIM provides battery-related services that can reduce the customer’s upfront capital requirement when purchasing a heavy-duty electric truck. The company said the model can reduce upfront capital deployment by 40%.

The Rewari facility forms part of EIM’s broader strategy to build an integrated electric heavy-mobility and energy network for India’s freight sector. The company focuses on electric heavy commercial vehicles, battery swapping, charging and energy solutions and operational support systems for high-utilisation freight fleets.
