Danieli Automation has been selected to supply an extended Manufacturing Execution System (MES) for the Ezz Flat Steel plant in Ain Sokhna, Egypt, as part of Ezz Steel’s digital transformation programme. The new web-based Q3-Manufacturing solution will provide an integrated platform for production management, operational coordination, quality control and advanced analytics across the steel plant.
The system will cover the plant’s complete production flow, including two meltshops, a Quality Strip Production (QSP) thin-slab caster and hot-strip mill, a billet caster, two bar and wire-rod mills and a hot skin-pass mill. The Q3-Manufacturing platform will incorporate functions covering order management, operational planning, detailed production scheduling and real-time shopfloor coordination. It will also support raw material and finished-product yard management, quality management, inline and predictive quality control, analytics and reporting.
By bringing production data, planning functions and analytics together within a single platform, the system is designed to provide Ezz Steel with greater visibility across plant operations. The integration of real-time information will support production teams in monitoring operations, identifying issues and making decisions based on current production data.
The solution will also provide tools for coordinating production activities across the plant’s different processing units. This integrated approach is expected to support production planning and scheduling while improving coordination between production, quality and material management functions.
Advanced quality management capabilities will form part of the system, including inline and predictive quality control. These functions will allow production information and quality data to be analysed together, supporting quality assurance throughout the manufacturing process.
The platform will also include advanced analytics and reporting capabilities to help plant teams assess production performance and identify opportunities for continuous improvement. The implementation is expected to contribute to improved production efficiency, resource utilisation and quality management at the Ain Sokhna facility. By consolidating production information and operational processes, the system will provide a common digital environment for managing activities across the plant. The project extends the long-standing relationship between Danieli and Ezz Steel. Both companies have previously worked together on steel production technologies, and the new MES project adds digital manufacturing capabilities to their collaboration.
Danieli Automation provides automation, process control and digital solutions for the metals industry. Its Q3-Manufacturing platform is designed to integrate manufacturing operations with production planning, quality management, material tracking and performance analysis. For Ezz Steel, the new system forms part of its wider digitalisation efforts aimed at improving manufacturing operations through greater use of integrated production data and digital tools.
The Ain Sokhna plant is equipped with multiple steel production and processing facilities, making integrated production management important for coordinating operations across different stages of manufacturing. The Q3-Manufacturing deployment will connect these production units through a common digital platform, enabling production, quality and operational information to be accessed and managed across the facility. Danieli and Ezz Steel said the project reinforces their ongoing cooperation and their focus on applying digital technologies to steel production.
