JSW Energy Limited has crossed the 15 GW installed generation capacity milestone after commissioning 1,572 MW of new capacity since April 2026. The company’s total operational generation capacity has now reached 15,025 MW. The milestone comes less than 18 months after JSW Energy crossed the 10 GW mark in March 2025. The company said the increase represents a compound annual growth rate of about 26% and reflects the progress made on its capacity expansion programme.
Of the 1,572 MW added during FY2027 so far, 1,272 MW comes from renewable energy projects. This includes 593 MW of solar capacity, 108 MW of wind capacity, 420 MW of hybrid capacity and 150 MW of hydro capacity. The company has also added 300 MW of thermal capacity through an inorganic route.
Renewable energy now accounts for more than 60% of JSW Energy’s operational portfolio, with a total capacity of 9,067 MW. This includes 3,125 MW of wind, 2,426 MW of solar, 1,735 MW of hybrid and 1,781 MW of hydro capacity. The company’s thermal portfolio stands at 5,958 MW.
JSW Energy remains on track to add 3 GW of greenfield capacity during FY2027. With around 1,272 MW already commissioned, the company has completed approximately 42% of its targeted additions for the year. The company has a total locked-in generation capacity of 32.4 GW. This includes 15 GW of operational capacity and 13.4 GW of projects under construction across renewable, hydro and thermal power. Another 4 GW is part of its development pipeline.
Energy storage is also becoming an important part of the company’s expansion strategy. JSW Energy has locked-in storage capacity of 29.6 GWh, comprising 26.4 GWh of pumped hydro storage and 3.2 GWh of battery energy storage. The company plans to increase its generation capacity to 30 GW and energy storage capacity to 40 GWh by 2030. It has also set a long-term target of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.
JSW Energy began commercial operations in 2000 with two 130 MW thermal power units at Vijayanagar in Karnataka. From its initial 260 MW capacity, the company has expanded to 15 GW through projects across different regions and power sources. The company is currently constructing projects with a combined generation capacity of 13.4 GW. Its portfolio covers power generation and transmission and includes thermal, hydro, wind, solar and hybrid projects.
JSW Energy currently has a total locked-in generation portfolio of over 32 GW spanning thermal, hydroelectric, and renewable energy assets. The company is simultaneously expanding its energy storage business, with substantial investments in pumped hydro and battery storage technologies.JSW Energy is part of the JSW Group, which has businesses across steel, energy, infrastructure, cement and sports. The company continues to expand its renewable and storage portfolio while maintaining a diversified generation base.
