HCLTech has reported significant progress in its sustainability and employee wellbeing initiatives for FY26, advancing its target of becoming net zero by 2040. The company achieved a 55.84% reduction in Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions from its FY20 baseline, exceeding its earlier target of a 50% reduction by 2030 four years ahead of schedule. HCLTech also reduced its overall Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions footprint by 27.7% compared with FY20.

The company’s shift towards renewable energy has been a key contributor to the reduction. Renewable sources accounted for 49.79% of total energy consumption during FY26 and 89.65% of the energy used by HCLTech’s data centres. Since FY20, the company has reduced energy consumption from conventional sources by 31%.

HCLTech also reported progress in water conservation. The company replenishes 51 times the amount of water consumed across its global operations and recorded water consumption of 10.68 litres per capita per day. All HCLTech campuses in India have maintained Zero Waste to Landfill Platinum certification since 2025. In addition, all HCLTech campuses have achieved either Platinum or LEED Platinum certification from leading green building organisations.

“Sustainability is becoming a catalyst for innovation and long-term growth,” said Vipul Arora, Global Head of Sustainability at HCLTech. “By combining technology, AI and human ingenuity, we are reducing our emission footprint while helping clients build more resilient and sustainable businesses.”

Employee wellbeing also remained a major focus during FY26. HCLTech invested 2.08% of its revenue in employee wellbeing, which the company said was the highest level in the IT industry. Women accounted for more than 50% of HCLTech’s Board and 29.6% of its overall workforce. More than 90% of employees at nearshore facilities were hired locally, with women representing 66% of that workforce. The number of employees with disabilities increased by 27.4%.

HCLTech also continued its community programmes through HCLFoundation. The company increased its HCLTech Grant outlay in India by 45% during FY26 and has distributed $3 million in grants to non-profit organisations in the Americas over the past three years for climate action projects.

HCLFoundation’s programmes have impacted more than 8.4 million people in India to date, including a 54% share of women. Its environmental initiatives have included planting more than 3.5 million saplings, greening 74,000 acres and harvesting more than 155 billion litres of water.

HCLTech’s sustainability efforts also received external recognition during FY26. The company featured for the second consecutive year in TIME’s World’s Best Companies and World’s Most Sustainable Companies lists. It was also included in Fortune’s World’s Most Admired Companies 2026 and Forbes’ World’s Best Employers for the sixth consecutive year.

The company additionally received an EcoVadis Gold rating and an MSCI AA ESG rating for the second consecutive year. HCLTech said it will continue combining technology, responsible business practices, employee initiatives and community programmes to advance its sustainability goals and support its long-term net-zero commitment.
