PCI Energy Solutions, a US-based provider of enterprise software for energy management and optimisation, has entered into a definitive agreement to be acquired by Mitsubishi Electric Corporation, creating an opportunity to combine PCI’s energy-market software capabilities with Mitsubishi Electric’s global technology, systems and commercial expertise.

The agreement was executed on August 20, 2026, Japan Standard Time. The transaction has been signed but has not yet closed and remains subject to applicable regulatory approvals and other customary closing conditions. The companies will continue to operate independently until completion.

Following the transaction, Mitsubishi Electric intends to retain PCI’s core management team, supporting continuity in leadership, customer relationships, technical expertise and day-to-day operations. PCI’s existing customer support channels, account relationships, active projects, products and service commitments will remain unchanged during the pre-closing period.

PCI develops enterprise software for power trading, generation operations, transmission and distribution, supply-demand planning, risk management, settlement and energy-asset optimisation. Its solutions are used by utilities, generators and other energy-market participants to manage increasingly complex operational and commercial requirements across the energy sector.

PCI Founder and CEO Dr. Fred N. Lee said the proposed transaction represents recognition of the company’s technology, employees and long-standing customer relationships. He added that the combination with Mitsubishi Electric would provide PCI with greater resources to invest in its products, accelerate innovation and expand its contribution to the evolving energy industry.

Mitsubishi Electric has identified Smart Energy as a strategic focus area under its New Medium-term Corporate Strategy announced in May 2026. The proposed acquisition is expected to bring together PCI’s capabilities in forecasting, scheduling, market management and optimisation with Mitsubishi Electric’s control technologies, digital platforms, systems expertise and international reach.

Soichi Hamamoto, Executive Officer (Associate) and Group President, Energy & Industrial Systems at Mitsubishi Electric, said PCI’s strong technology platform, industry expertise and experienced management team provide a solid foundation for further growth. He added that the combination could strengthen Mitsubishi Electric’s smart energy business as customers increasingly seek integrated solutions for managing energy consumption, demand and power markets.

PCI will continue to operate under its existing management structure until closing, with employees remaining focused on customer service, product delivery and ongoing implementations. The companies said integration planning will be conducted through appropriate legal and governance processes.

The transaction is expected to close during 2026, subject to regulatory clearances and customary closing conditions. Upon completion, PCI Energy Solutions will become a wholly owned subsidiary of Mitsubishi Electric. PCI Energy Solutions provides software that helps energy companies optimise energy production, trading, transportation and consumption. The company employs approximately 350 product experts, engineers, business analysts and other professionals and is headquartered in Norman, Oklahoma, with offices in Mexico City and Lima.

Founded in 1921, Mitsubishi Electric Corporation is a global provider of electrical and electronic products and systems across energy, infrastructure, defense and space, factory automation, automotive, building systems, air conditioning, digital innovation and semiconductor technologies. The company has more than 200 group companies and approximately 150,000 employees worldwide.
