Hyundai Motor India and Radio Mirchi Launch Traffic Quality Index Across Seven Cities

Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL), in partnership with Radio Mirchi, has launched the Hyundai Traffic Quality Index (TQI), a real-time traffic information system designed to make daily commuting simpler and more predictable. The initiative is being introduced across Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Pune and Kolkata. It combines live traffic information, Radio Mirchi’s on-ground updates and advisories from traffic authorities to provide commuters with a clear picture of road conditions.

The Hyundai TQI uses a colour-coded rating system on a scale of 1 to 10. The system converts complex traffic conditions into an easy-to-understand format, allowing motorists to assess congestion levels before and during their journeys. The initiative is designed to help commuters identify congestion hotspots, plan departure times, consider alternate routes and reduce avoidable delays. Traffic information will be broadcast through Radio Mirchi’s programming network, allowing drivers to receive updates without having to use their mobile phones while driving.

Virat Khullar, Head, Marketing, Hyundai Motor India, said the company’s road safety efforts extend beyond vehicle technology. He said the TQI initiative aims to provide commuters with useful traffic information that can help them make better decisions and contribute to safer and smoother journeys.

Yatish Mehrishi, CEO, ENIL, said Radio Mirchi’s city presence, radio network and local teams provide access to traffic information from across urban centres. He said the partnership with Hyundai combines media, technology and local intelligence to address an everyday commuting challenge.

Traffic authorities in several cities have also welcomed the initiative. Delhi Traffic Police said timely information on congestion and diversions can help motorists select alternate routes and reduce inconvenience. Officials in Mumbai, Pune, Chennai and Hyderabad also highlighted the potential of TQI to improve traffic awareness and support more effective traffic management.

The Hyundai TQI has been designed on the lines of simple public information systems such as the Air Quality Index. By providing a standardised traffic rating, the initiative aims to create a common language for understanding road conditions. The colour-coded system is intended to help motorists quickly assess traffic quality without having to interpret multiple sources of information. Regular updates will bring together data from technology platforms, traffic authorities and on-ground teams. Hyundai said the initiative is part of its broader focus on safer and smarter mobility in India. As urban traffic volumes continue to increase, access to timely and reliable information can help commuters make more informed travel choices.
