Danfoss has expanded its AB-QM pressure independent control valve (PICV) portfolio with the launch of an upgraded range covering sizes DN 125 to DN 250. The latest generation of valves offers higher flow capacity, lower differential pressure requirements and new Super High Flow models, helping improve energy efficiency and performance in commercial and industrial HVAC systems.
The expanded range has been developed to meet the growing demand for efficient heating and cooling systems in large buildings, data centres and district cooling networks. The new valves are designed to deliver greater flexibility while reducing operating costs and simplifying installation.
The upgraded size L valves now offer significantly higher nominal flow rates across the DN 125–250 range. Depending on the valve size, flow capacity has increased by 5% to 60%, with an average improvement of around 30% compared with the previous generation. The increased capacity enables designers and contractors to handle higher system demands without increasing valve size.
Danfoss has also lowered the minimum differential pressure required for operation. Standard flow models now require a starting pressure of 40 kPa, while High Flow models operate from 60 kPa. Lower pressure requirements reduce the load on circulation pumps, helping decrease energy consumption and potentially allowing the use of smaller pumps, leading to lower installation and operating costs.
Another key improvement is compatibility with smaller actuators. The redesigned DN 200 and DN 250 valves no longer require the larger digital NovoCon XL actuator. They can now be paired with the more compact NovoCon L actuator, reducing installation space and lowering equipment costs while maintaining reliable performance.
The updated valve range also offers greater durability under demanding operating conditions. The maximum allowable differential pressure has been increased from 600 kPa to 800 kPa, providing an additional safety margin for high-pressure HVAC installations.
To support applications requiring very high flow rates, Danfoss has introduced two new Super High Flow (SHF) models. The DN 250 SHF valve delivers a nominal flow rate of 600 cubic metres per hour with a starting pressure of 80 kPa, while the DN 250 SHF+ provides an even higher nominal flow of 670 cubic metres per hour with a starting pressure of 100 kPa. These models are designed for large commercial buildings, district cooling systems and rapidly expanding data centre infrastructure.
Despite the higher performance, the upgraded AB-QM range continues to deliver the same pressure independent control technology that has made the product widely used in HVAC applications. The valves maintain valve authority close to 100%, ensuring stable temperature control regardless of pressure fluctuations within the system. They also retain a wide control range of 1:1000, enabling precise flow regulation and improved system efficiency.
With the expanded AB-QM portfolio, Danfoss aims to provide building owners, consultants and HVAC professionals with advanced flow control solutions that improve energy efficiency, simplify system design and support the increasing demand for sustainable heating and cooling infrastructure. The enhanced range further strengthens the company’s commitment to delivering innovative technologies that help customers achieve reliable, cost-effective and high-performance building operations.
