Vikran Engineering Limited has secured a contract worth approximately ₹120.69 crore (excluding GST) from Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) for the execution of the 400 kV Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) Substation Package SS-147. Awarded through a domestic competitive bidding process, the project further strengthens the company’s presence in India’s power transmission sector and reinforces its long-standing association with the country’s central transmission utility.
Under the contract, Vikran Engineering will undertake the complete design, engineering, manufacturing, testing, supply, erection, and commissioning of GIS equipment to enhance transformation capacity at three major POWERGRID substations. These include the 400/220 kV Magarwada GIS Substation in Dadra & Nagar Haveli, the 765/400/220 kV Vadodara GIS Substation in Gujarat, and the 400/220 kV Rajgarh Substation in Madhya Pradesh.
The project also involves the construction of new 400/220 kV GIS bays and associated infrastructure under integrated contracts covering both the supply of equipment and execution of services. The capacity augmentation is expected to improve grid efficiency, strengthen transmission reliability, and enhance power evacuation capabilities across Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and the Union Territory of Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu.
By upgrading critical transmission infrastructure, the project is expected to support growing electricity demand driven by industrial expansion, commercial development, and urbanization. The enhanced substations will contribute to improving the resilience, operational stability, and long-term reliability of India’s national power grid.
Commenting on the order, Rakesh Markhedkar, Chairman and Managing Director of Vikran Engineering Limited, said the contract reflects the continued confidence that POWERGRID places in the company’s engineering expertise and project execution capabilities. He noted that the project further strengthens Vikran Engineering’s position in the high-voltage GIS substation segment while reinforcing its long-standing partnership with POWERGRID. Markhedkar added that expanding transformation capacity at key transmission nodes is essential to meeting India’s growing energy requirements and ensuring a reliable and efficient electricity network. He reaffirmed the company’s commitment to delivering the project with high standards of quality, technical excellence, and timely execution.
