ABB has announced an agreement to acquire Advantics, a France-based specialist in Silicon Carbide (SiC)-based power conversion solutions. The acquisition will expand ABB’s Direct Current (DC) technology portfolio and strengthen the company’s ability to address rising demand for efficient, high-performance power solutions across data centers, industrial microgrids, power generation and electric vehicle infrastructure.
Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed. The acquisition is expected to close by the fourth quarter of 2026, subject to customary closing conditions. As global electrification accelerates, the demand for more efficient ways to manage and distribute electricity continues to grow. According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), electricity’s share of final energy consumption is expected to increase significantly in the coming years. Advanced DC architectures can improve efficiency by reducing repeated AC/DC conversion steps and enabling smarter management of electrical power.
The acquisition of Advantics will add high-efficiency Silicon Carbide power conversion capabilities to ABB’s existing DC portfolio. The technology will support the development of next-generation electrical systems designed for higher power density, improved resilience and greater energy efficiency.
By combining Advantics’ expertise in power converter technology with ABB’s capabilities in electrical protection, power distribution, digital control and system engineering, the companies aim to accelerate the adoption of advanced DC solutions. These solutions will help optimize energy storage integration, flexible power sources and emerging electrical infrastructures required for the energy transition and digital transformation.
Massimiliano Cifalitti, President of ABB’s Smart Power division, said, “We continuously invest in technology and talent to support the global expansion of electrification. Advantics’ power converter technology and engineering expertise complement ABB’s Direct Current solutions by adding compact, high-efficiency capabilities for critical applications including data centers, industrial microgrids and EV infrastructure. Together, we will accelerate the development of future-ready DC systems.”
Founded in France, Advantics develops integrated hardware, firmware and software solutions to enhance power conversion performance in demanding applications. Based in Saint-Genis-Pouilly, the company’s Silicon Carbide-based power converter modules deliver efficiency levels of up to 99 percent, helping customers achieve improved performance and reduced energy losses.
Michal Elias, Founder and CEO of Advantics, said, “Silicon Carbide technology is enabling new levels of performance in power conversion. As electrification expands worldwide, the need for efficient and intelligent power management solutions is growing rapidly. ABB shares our vision for advancing this technology, and together we can help shape the infrastructure supporting the energy transition and digital transformation.”
