Daimler India Commercial Vehicles (DICV), a wholly owned subsidiary of Daimler Truck AG, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) to participate in the Government of India’s vehicle replacement programme for old trucks and buses in the Delhi-NCR region. The initiative, approved by the Union Cabinet under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, is aimed at accelerating the replacement of ageing commercial vehicles with cleaner and more efficient alternatives. The programme is funded by the National Capital Region Planning Board (NCRPB) under the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs and is being implemented by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways in collaboration with the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.
As part of the programme, BharatBenz will offer an 8 percent discount on the ex-showroom price of eligible trucks and buses purchased under the scheme. The initiative is expected to benefit nearly 2.07 lakh commercial vehicles across the Delhi-NCR region, including approximately 1.91 lakh trucks and more than 16,300 buses that are currently operating with older emission standards.
The scheme applies to BS-IV and older commercial vehicles registered in Delhi-NCR. Eligible owners can replace their existing fleets with BharatBenz BS-VI trucks and buses, cleaner fuel variants or electric commercial vehicles, depending on the provisions of the programme. In addition to manufacturer discounts, customers will be eligible for a range of government incentives, including interest subsidies on vehicle loans, fuel vouchers, waivers on registration fees and concessions in motor vehicle taxes. These benefits are expected to lower the overall cost of fleet replacement while encouraging faster adoption of cleaner commercial transportation.
Commenting on the development, Rajiv Chaturvedi, President and Chief Business Officer, Daimler India Commercial Vehicles, said, “The Government’s vehicle replacement initiative is an important step towards modernising India’s commercial vehicle fleet while reducing emissions in one of the country’s busiest transport corridors. We are pleased to support this programme by offering customers access to advanced BharatBenz BS-VI vehicles that deliver higher fuel efficiency, improved safety, lower operating costs and enhanced productivity.”
BharatBenz has consistently focused on developing technologically advanced commercial vehicles that combine performance, reliability and environmental responsibility. Its portfolio of trucks and buses is designed to meet the evolving needs of transport operators while complying with the latest emission norms.
By participating in the Government’s fleet modernisation programme, BharatBenz reinforces its commitment to supporting cleaner mobility, improving road transport efficiency and contributing to India’s long-term environmental and sustainability goals. The initiative also complements the company’s efforts to promote advanced commercial vehicle technologies that enhance fleet performance while reducing the environmental impact of road transportation.
