Renault Group and Thales have introduced 4 TROOP, an advanced tactical vehicle concept designed to meet the evolving operational requirements of modern land forces. Unveiled at Eurosatory, the vehicle combines Renault Group’s expertise in automotive engineering and vehicle architectures with Thales’ advanced defence technologies to create a highly connected, mobile command platform capable of supporting a broad range of military missions.
Developed as a versatile 4×4 platform, 4 TROOP integrates secure communications, tactical connectivity, mission coordination systems and real-time decision-support capabilities within a single vehicle architecture. The platform has been engineered to function as a mobile command centre, enabling armed forces to plan, coordinate and execute missions while maintaining continuous situational awareness in complex operational environments.
A key feature of the vehicle is its ability to process and manage large volumes of tactical data while coordinating unmanned systems, including unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs). This capability enables commanders and field units to conduct reconnaissance, surveillance, operational planning and mission execution with enhanced speed and precision.
The vehicle is equipped with a hybrid powertrain that combines extended range with low-signature operation, allowing forces to conduct missions with greater discretion while maintaining mobility across diverse terrains. Designed for deployment in reconnaissance, troop coordination, escort operations, logistics support, site protection and intelligence-gathering missions, the platform offers flexibility for both conventional and emerging battlefield requirements.
The inclusion of Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality further enhances operational effectiveness by enabling the vehicle to provide electrical power to field equipment and mission-critical systems. The technology can be integrated across multiple Renault Group vehicle platforms, including utility vehicles and sport utility vehicles, offering scalability for different operational needs.
At the heart of the system is Thales’ Combat Digital Platform, which brings together secure communications, multi-sensor integration, operational monitoring and cyber-secure data management. Fully aligned with military connectivity and operational standards, the platform transforms data into actionable intelligence, enabling faster and more informed decision-making during missions.
Franck Naro, Engineering Vice President – Vehicle Projects & Operations at Renault Group, said the programme reflects a practical approach to developing sovereign mobility solutions that address emerging defence requirements. He noted that leveraging proven commercial vehicle platforms alongside industrial-scale manufacturing capabilities enables rapid deployment and operational readiness.
Christophe Salomon, Executive Vice President, Secure Communications and Information Systems at Thales, highlighted that 4 TROOP demonstrates how advanced digital technologies and vehicle systems can work together to create a new generation of connected defence platforms. By combining real-time data processing, secure communications and collaborative combat capabilities, the vehicle provides military forces with improved agility, coordination and operational effectiveness.
The collaboration represents a significant step in delivering interoperable, rapidly deployable tactical mobility solutions capable of supporting both domestic security missions and high-intensity military operations. By combining automotive manufacturing expertise with advanced defence technologies, Renault Group and Thales aim to provide armed forces with a modern platform that addresses the growing demand for connected, data-driven battlefield capabilities.
