Castings PLC has reported a resilient financial performance for the year ended March 31, 2026, delivering a significant improvement in profitability despite challenging market conditions across the commercial vehicle industry. The company strengthened its operational performance through higher manufacturing efficiency, disciplined cost management and strategic investments that position the business for future expansion.
Group revenue stood at £173.2 million, reflecting a marginal decline from the previous year as demand from heavy truck manufacturers across Europe remained subdued and market uncertainty persisted in North America. Even with lower sales, operating profit increased sharply to £10 million, supported by stronger productivity across its manufacturing operations and improved capacity utilization.
Production at the company’s foundry operations also recorded steady progress, with output rising to 41,500 tonnes, demonstrating stable manufacturing performance despite weaker customer demand. Improved operational efficiencies across both the foundry and machining businesses contributed to stronger operating margins during the year.
The company maintained its total annual dividend at 18.40 pence per share, underscoring confidence in its financial strength and long-term business outlook. A major highlight of the year was the successful commissioning of a new production line at the William Lee foundry. The investment is expected to increase the group’s manufacturing capacity by approximately 15 percent while enabling production of larger and more technically advanced cast components. The expansion enhances the company’s ability to support customers requiring complex engineering solutions across multiple industries.
Castings also reported encouraging progress at its Scunthorpe large-castings operation, which achieved profitability during the reporting period while broadening the range of products available to customers. These developments strengthen the group’s manufacturing capabilities and reinforce its position as a key supplier within the European commercial vehicle supply chain.
Looking ahead, the company expects improving opportunities in several growth sectors, including renewable energy, agricultural machinery and electric commercial vehicles. While temporary power supply constraints affected operations at William Lee at the beginning of the current financial year, customer production schedules indicate demand could recover by between five and ten percent.
Supported by recent investments, Castings believes it is well positioned to respond to higher order volumes as market conditions improve. The company continues to benefit from a strong balance sheet that provides financial flexibility for future investment while supporting long-term growth initiatives.
