Runaya Metsource Limited, a Vedanta group company specializing in circular economy and waste-to-wealth solutions, has announced a major expansion of its critical metals production capabilities in Rajasthan. The expansion includes new capacities for cobalt, cadmium, and copper production, along with additional base metals and metal compounds, aimed at supporting India’s growing energy transition and advanced manufacturing sectors.
The company currently operates fully commissioned facilities in Rajasthan with an installed processing capacity exceeding 70,000 tonnes annually. These facilities focus on converting industrial residues into valuable critical and base metals through advanced recovery and recycling technologies.
As part of its next phase of growth, Runaya is expanding operations at its Zinc Industrial Park in Rajasthan. The company stated that the new capacities will significantly strengthen domestic availability of critical minerals required for sectors such as electric mobility, renewable energy, energy storage, electronics, power infrastructure, and data centers.
The expansion is expected to create a cluster-driven manufacturing ecosystem capable of supporting India’s ambitions to reduce dependence on imported critical minerals and strengthen domestic industrial capabilities. Runaya said the initiative would also contribute to local employment generation and industrial development in the region.
Cobalt, cadmium, and copper are increasingly important materials in the global transition toward clean energy and advanced technologies. These metals play a critical role in battery systems, electric vehicles, transmission networks, renewable energy infrastructure, semiconductors, electronics manufacturing, and large-scale digital infrastructure projects.
Runaya stated that expanding domestic production through advanced processes such as solvent extraction aligns closely with India’s Critical Minerals Mission, which aims to secure long-term supply chains for strategically important raw materials.
Commenting on the development, Naivedya Agarwal, Managing Director of Runaya, said the company is focused on building an integrated circular economy platform for the recovery and production of critical metals in India.
According to Agarwal, the company’s ongoing expansion and operational scale are helping create a value-added manufacturing ecosystem capable of supporting industries linked to energy, mobility, electronics, and advanced engineering applications.
He added that the expansion supports long-term domestic supply security while creating sustainable industrial value through recycling, resource efficiency, and advanced metallurgical technologies.
Runaya has positioned itself as a technology-driven company focused on sustainable manufacturing solutions in the natural resources sector. Its operations are centered around recovering valuable metals from industrial waste streams and converting them into commercially useful products.
The company’s broader portfolio includes green aluminium solutions, minor metal recovery, gas-atomized metallurgical powders, and advanced ground support products. Through these initiatives, Runaya aims to strengthen circular manufacturing practices while reducing industrial waste and improving resource utilization efficiency.
Industry experts note that the global demand for critical minerals is expected to rise sharply over the next decade due to accelerating investments in renewable energy systems, electric vehicles, battery manufacturing, and digital infrastructure. Countries around the world are increasingly prioritizing domestic production and recycling of strategic metals to improve supply chain resilience and reduce geopolitical risks associated with mineral imports.
India’s growing manufacturing ambitions under various industrial development programs have further increased the need for secure access to critical minerals and processed metal compounds. Domestic production capacities are expected to play a crucial role in supporting sectors such as automotive manufacturing, electronics, aerospace, telecommunications, and clean energy infrastructure.
Runaya’s expansion in Rajasthan is expected to contribute to these national priorities while reinforcing the company’s role in India’s evolving critical minerals ecosystem. By combining advanced recovery technologies with circular economy practices, the company aims to build sustainable and scalable metal production capabilities for future industrial demand.
