A total of 207 students successfully completed the 2023-2024 course at the Sandvik Coromant School of Manufacturing Excellence, marking the graduation of its sixth batch. The convocation ceremony took place on September 6, 2024, at the institute’s campus in Pune.
Established in 2018 through a collaboration between Sandvik Coromant India and the Government of Maharashtra, the school is located at the Industrial Training Institute (ITI) in Pune. It aims to provide advanced education and skills development for young individuals in the manufacturing sector.
Throughout the year-long program, students receive training in key areas such as manufacturing technology, metrology, technical drawing, workshop calculations, CNC machining, and programming. The goal is to enhance their technical skills and improve their employability within the manufacturing industry.
Since its inception, the school has seen 1,344 students graduate, with 847 securing positions at manufacturing companies across India. To earn their certification, students must complete six hours of weekly coursework and engage in both theoretical and practical training. The practical component includes producing a component based on a technical drawing and operating CNC machines independently.
The 2024 certification ceremony saw the participation of several prominent figures from Sandvik Coromant, including Kiran Acharya, Managing Director and CFO of Sandvik Coromant India, Obhijeet Chakraborty, Head of Facilities Management and Sustainability, Rahul Jejurikar, Cluster Channel Manager, and Vignesh Iyer, Head of Financial Reporting and CSR. Roshni Acharya, CSR Specialist, also attended alongside representatives from the ITI Pune and industry leaders.
Kiran Acharya stated, “The School of Manufacturing Excellence was established to provide equal opportunities for India’s youth. With the growing skills gap in the country, the center plays an important role in offering advanced education, particularly to those facing challenges in accessing higher education.”
Since its founding, the program has enrolled 1,509 students, with 1,344 graduating. Acharya emphasized the increasing interest from young people in manufacturing, highlighting Sandvik Coromant’s commitment to nurturing this talent.
