Swati Kandulna’s life has been a tale of overcoming hardship and reaching for success. As a child, she faced poverty and tough times, but she never let go of her dreams. Joining Sharpedge Tooling Technology was a turning point for Swati, where she worked hard and learned fast, growing both personally and professionally. Her biggest achievement came when she was able to buy her parents their own home, something she’d always dreamed of. Swati’s story shows how small businesses like Sharpedge can be great places for young people to learn and grow.
Swati Kandulna’s life story unfolds in the vibrant neighborhood of Ghitorni in Delhi. Here, she lived with her family of five in a simple rented room, facing the same challenges that many underprivileged families do. Her father, Patras Kandulna, had moved to the capital city from Jharkhand, hoping for a better future. However, his struggle with alcohol and job loss brought additional trials to the family. The Kandulna family’s resilience was particularly evident when they had to move back to Ranchi due to these hardships. But Swati, even as a young girl, knew the value of education and insisted on returning to Delhi. Her steadfast belief in her faith seemed to work miracles, as her family was back in Delhi within three months.
Swati’s mother Susheela started working in a playschool, and with her additional income, the family began to find firmer footing. There were times when Susheela did part-time maid jobs to meet the growing needs of the family. Swati excelled in her studies, propelled by her aspirations and her family’s sacrifices. Despite facing another family crisis with her mother’s illness during her senior secondary school years, Swati’s faith remained unwavering, and she believes it was this faith that saw them through. Her academic journey culminated in a degree from Hansraj College, a notable institution also attended by Bollywood superstar Shahrukh Khan. Swati majored in Commerce and Mathematics, a result to her hard work and taking a step towards her mission to support her family.
Swati’s life post-graduation saw her take up her first job in a manufacturing company in Gurgaon, nurturing her love for numbers and accounts. Yet, it was her move to Sharpedge Tooling Technologies in 2019 that truly set her life on a transformative path. In India, the middle-class dream often feels like something straight out of a Bollywood movie, where life’s troubles are turned around in a magical song. But Swati’s ambitions was more realistic, where she had a simple but significant goal: to own a home and provide for her parents.
In five years with Sharpedge, Swati not only achieved this dream but also found a mentor in Amit Tanwar, the company’s Managing Director. “I’ll never forget his generosity when I was short on funds to secure our family home. Without a second thought, he helped me out, lending me the amount I needed,” Swati recalls with profound gratitude. This kindness was a symbol of trust and family-like culture at Sharpedge that bolstered Swati’s resolve to aspire and achieve more. While her contemporaries may have chosen the familial route, Swati still unmarried, remains steadfast in carving out her professional success story, driven by the unwavering support of her Sharpedge family.
Growth Beyond Boundaries: Empowerment of Aspiring Minds
In 2016, a small team led by Amit Tanwar and Sandeep Yadav began a journey called Sharpedge Tools Technology Private Limited. The company carved out its niche, delivering complete turnkey projects in modular flooring and safety barriers, along with machine-tooled solutions. The Sharpedge team, brimming with seasoned professionals from design to installation, prided themselves on timely and cost-effective project executions.

Swati Kandulna’s entry into Sharpedge in 2019 was a new chapter not just for her but also for the company. As the only woman in a team, rather than feeling out of place, she discovered a supportive work environment that fostered her zeal for learning and growth. This atmosphere at Sharpedge proved to be fertile ground for Swati to expand her horizons. “I have always felt secure here and am grateful for the unwavering support from Amit and Sandeep, who have guided me professionally,” she says appreciatively.
Initially, Swati’s responsibilities at her previous job were quite restricted, but Sharpedge offered her a broad spectrum of tasks that grew over time. While the workload initially seemed daunting, she soon recognized it as a golden chance to advance her career. Presently, Swati is not only an established member of the team but also a mentor to four other women at Sharpedge. She reflects, “The new women on the team saw their roles as mere jobs at first, but I’ve helped them grow stronger, foster their independence, and see the value in their work—a transformation that has led them to engage more passionately with their roles.”
Empowering Beliefs: Strengthening Women’s Role in Society
Swati stands as a symbol of strength against societal perceptions in India that often label women as weak. She speaks out with conviction, “Women are indeed powerful, contrary to how they are sometimes treated by society.” Swati emphasizes the impact that proper guidance and mentorship can have on a girl’s life and, by extension, on society as a whole. She recalls how girls can become easy targets for blame but considers herself fortunate to have had supportive parents who understood and trusted her. “During my studies, I often returned home late from combined classes. Initially, this caused my mother a lot of worry. However, once I explained to her that I could take care of myself, her worry turned into trust,” Swati recounts, highlighting the importance of communication and understanding in nurturing trust and empowerment.
In her role at Sharpedge, she’s shattered the glass ceiling, moving beyond the confines of accounting to grasp the technical nuances of cutting tool manufacturing. “My drive to learn and grow knew no bounds. I delved into understanding the technical drawings, shared proposals, and ensured customer satisfaction,” she shares. This mindset, according to Swati, equates learning to profit, not just for the individual but for the whole team. As a senior team member at Sharpedge, Swati’s contributions are pivotal. She meticulously scrutinizes tool costings, always seeking ways to cut costs without compromising on quality, ensuring the manufacturing process is as efficient as possible and that the final product exceeds customer expectations. Her leadership extends to her team as well; she’s not just a mentor but a guide, helping her colleagues navigate their tasks and grow within their roles.
Swati Kandulna’s story isn’t just about her achievements; it’s about her vision for the future. She’s not only building a successful career at Sharpedge but is also giving back to society through the Simili Foundation, as a Trust Member. This NGO, started by Sharpedge Family, focuses on helping women and children in rural India. They’ve been handing out books to kids who need them and planning community events like social weddings. Swati, who holds her faith close to her heart, dreams of visiting Bethlehem. She’s confident that with the blessings she’s received so far, she’ll make it there one day. Her journey, fueled by faith and a desire to make a difference, continues to inspire.
