Megha Mulik’s story is an inspiring journey of a young woman who, despite not having a clear vision of her career path, discovered her passion for industrial automation and became an expert in the field. Megha’s journey exemplifies the power of curiosity, determination, and hard work, from working on a project in her final year of college to becoming the Chief Technology Officer for Machine Intelligence at Cybernetik Technologies. Moreover, Megha strongly advocates for more women to join the manufacturing industry, where their unique perspectives and contributions can make a significant difference in shaping the future of automation and technology.

Megha Mulik is a seasoned professional in the industrial automation industry, currently serving as the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) for Machine Intelligence at Cybernetik Technologies in Pune, India. With over 13 years of experience in control systems design, analysis, logic development, and project management of special purpose machines and turnkey projects for various industries, including food, agro, automobile, and process, Megha is an expert in her field.

Megha has extensive knowledge of the latest industrial technologies and automation products of leading brands such as Rockwell, Siemens, ABB, and Mitsubishi. She is skilled in handling techno-commercial negotiations, executing projects, and providing after-sales support and user training. Her proficiency in understanding user requirements and providing customized solutions and her expertise in control schematic design, electrical design, and project coordination make her a valuable asset to Cybernetik Technologies.

From Merit to Manufacturing

Megha Mulik, a bright student from Karad, Maharashtra, had a deep interest in various subjects but needed help to choose the right field for her higher education. Eventually, the merit list from the reputed Cummins College of Engineering in Pune made her decide to pursue a Bachelor’s in Instrumentation and Control. During her final year of college, she worked on a project for Cummins India, a life-changing experience for her. Megha had never considered working in manufacturing, but this project drove her interest in machines and the shop floor. Despite the advice from her friends and family asking her to opt for software engineering during the booming period of IT, Megha stuck to her interest in robotics and automation programming.

Megha’s passion for machines led her to work at S B Robotics and Twin Engineers, where she gained experience in manufacturing and dispensing equipment. Eventually, she joined Cybernetik Technologies Private Limited as a Control Engineer, an industrial automation company that designs, builds, and installs customized automation solutions for various industries worldwide. With her dedication and hard work, Megha is now the Chief Technology Officer for Automation & Robotics at Cybernetik. In this role, she is responsible for technical and commercial support, understanding and discussing customer requirements, providing solutions, and project management. Megha is also a solution provider wherever there is a grey area in project execution.

Throughout her professional career, Megha was surrounded by supportive people and felt immense pride. “There was indeed a lack of basic facilities for women in the manufacturing sector, but the scenario is changing now. Things are improving, and companies like Hero are employing women as production line operators,” shares Megha. Megha is happy to see more women participating in the manufacturing field and believes this can benefit the organisations and the growth of the manufacturing sector.

Women in Manufacturing: Huge Career Opportunities

As per Megha Mulik, manufacturing is where women have traditionally been underrepresented. Despite the progress made in gender inclusiveness in the modern workforce, specific industries remain male-dominated due to many factors. Megha believes that companies of all sizes, from MNCs to MSMEs, should work towards gender inclusiveness. “Considering the progress achieved, the industry still needs to evolve by bringing more women into machine-oriented jobs rather than just backend roles. To facilitate this, companies should train women in technical and communication skills and offer flexible working hours and childcare centres to help them maintain a work-life balance”, adds Megha Mulik.

Today’s younger generation looks at building their careers in the digital or gaming world, which can become a significant challenge in the availability of the right resources in the manufacturing sector. “Manufacturing is already skill deprived, and the future looks bleak. This scenario could lead to the inevitable domination of robots in the manufacturing industry”, opines Megha Mulik.

“Education institutions can play a significant role in building the gap and bringing more women by organizing brainstorming sessions”, shares Megha. Megha is proud to have studied at Cummins College of Engineering, a pioneer in building women’s careers in manufacturing. With proper training and support, women can become highly skilled operators, technicians, and engineers, helping to drive the manufacturing industry forward.

Overcoming the Bias

Megha has an important message for aspiring women in Manufacturing. “Countless opportunities are waiting for you, but it’s up to you to seize them with an open mind and unwavering determination. Don’t let the common myths about manufacturing hold you back. Contrary to popular belief, manufacturing is not just about physical labour or hazardous sites. With the right skills and mindset, you can thrive in this field while maintaining a healthy work-life balance”, explains Megha Mulik with her experience in the industry.

The manufacturing industry is evolving rapidly with cutting-edge technologies and innovative processes. “As a woman, you bring a unique perspective and skill set that can contribute to the growth and success of this industry. By developing an interest in this exciting field, you can unleash your full potential and build a fulfilling career you will never regret. So, let go of any doubts or fears and embrace the opportunities that come your way”, concludes Megha.

Megha Mulik’s journey from a curious student to a successful Chief Technology Officer is a journey of passion for machines and automation that has led her to achieve great heights in her career. Her story shares a message of following one’s interests and being determined to succeed.
