Messe Düsseldorf is charting new territory in the Latin American foundry technology sector with the inaugural GIFA Mexico, scheduled from October 16 to 18, 2024, at Centro Citibanamex in Mexico City. This expansion of the globally recognized “Bright World of Metals” event series marks a significant stride towards globalizing its reach.
The event promises to be a convergence point for industry experts worldwide, showcasing a broad array of machinery, equipment, materials, and technological innovations tailored for various industries including automotive, construction, mechanical engineering, and iron and NF-metal sectors. Noteworthy industry giants such as ASK Chemicals and General Kinematics, along with key international participants from China, Italy, and Spain, have already confirmed their presence.
In collaboration with the Mexican Foundry Society (SMFAC), GIFA Mexico will operate in conjunction with the established FUNDIEXPO, creating a pavilion that underscores Mexico’s burgeoning role in the foundry and automotive supply industries. Bruno Jaramillo, General Manager of SMFAC, highlights the Mexican foundry industry’s resilience in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, pointing to a full-scale recovery and its advantageous position amidst the increasing trend of nearshoring. The demand for skilled labor is on the rise, particularly in the automotive sector, where Mexico serves as a crucial production hub for leading car manufacturers.

The joint investment by Grupo Industrial Saltillo and ZF-TRW in the Evercast foundry and car parts factory, exemplifies the sector’s expansion and job creation potential. With a $120 million investment, the plant is a testament to the industry’s growth trajectory in the country. The high demand for castings in Mexico is also drawing significant attention from European and German investors. With around 1,900 German firms already established in Mexico, Messe Düsseldorf’s new venture is well-positioned to leverage the nation’s strategic assets.
Malte Seifert, Director Portfolio Metals, Energy & Autonomous Technologies at Messe Düsseldorf, emphasizes the strategic importance of this venture, anticipating GIFA Mexico’s success in a market ripe with growth opportunities. GIFA Mexico aims to serve as a pioneering platform for the global metal-working and foundry industries, offering German and European stakeholders a gateway to one of Latin America’s most vibrant markets. The biennial event will feature a wide range of industry applications, from automotive to energy, and aims to become the premier educational platform for the foundry industry in the region with a comprehensive lineup of conferences and seminars.
FUNDIEXPO, the leading trade fair in Mexico for the foundry sector, saw participation from 350 exhibitors across 15 countries in its 2022 edition, attracting over 6,400 visitors. GIFA Mexico aims to build on this success, offering an unparalleled business development and learning opportunity for the metallurgy and foundry sectors.
