Sandvik Coromant, a global leader in cutting tools and tooling systems, is excited to introduce the GC1230, a groundbreaking grade for indexable milling. Tailored for high metal removal rates in stable environments, GC1230 is set to become the preferred choice for steel milling.
GC1230 is designed to balance edge line toughness and wear resistance, thanks to Sandvik Coromant’s advanced Zertivo® coating technology. “The innovative coating on GC1230 delivers unmatched performance with reliability, precision, and sustainability, making it the top option for steel milling tasks,” said Wayne Mayson, Global Product Application Manager for Grades at Sandvik Coromant.
The new PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition) grade features a nano multi-layer TiAlN + TiSiN coating with enhanced adhesion, boosting overall strength and durability in both wet and dry milling applications. “GC1230 is engineered to last longer and perform better across a range of conditions, allowing for higher productivity and reduced cycle times,” Mayson added.
GC1230 offers exceptional heat resistance, allowing for increased cutting speeds and high metal removal rates. Its extended tool life means more pieces per edge, making it a cost-effective and sustainable choice for steel milling, especially in dry machining conditions.
In tests comparing the previous grade, GC1130, with GC1230, the latter demonstrated superior toughness, wear resistance, and versatility across a wide range of applications. GC1230 builds upon the strengths of GC1130 but provides greater toughness and wear resistance, making it ideal for both light roughing and finishing operations, from general tasks to complex tool paths and deep cavities.
This versatile grade is suitable for various industry segments and component features, reinforcing Sandvik Coromant’s commitment to providing cutting-edge solutions for engineering industries worldwide.
