TRUMPF has introduced a machine diagnostics system designed to proactively address issues before they disrupt production. By utilizing remote monitoring, TRUMPF service experts can keep track of a machine’s health through condition monitoring.
“With our advanced diagnostics, we can now gather extensive machine measurement data, such as motor currents and sensor signals, which were previously inaccessible. Essentially, while we could once only measure a machine’s temperature, we can now obtain a complete overview of its operational health,” explained Martin Schober, the lead developer for machine diagnostics at TRUMPF.
The new system allows machines to autonomously conduct regular measurements, which TRUMPF service experts analyze for specific error patterns indicative of abnormal operation. Automatic search algorithms help compare this data against established indicators and thresholds.
“For example, if components on the machine’s axes suffer wear from dirt or strain, this could negatively impact production over time,” said TRUMPF product manager Stefanie Rieker. “Our diagnostics now allow us to gather and interpret relevant data, enabling us to identify irregularities and promptly reach out to customers with actionable recommendations.”
Enhanced Efficiency with Reduced Service Expenses
One significant benefit for customers is that they are continuously updated on their machine’s condition, allowing them to address potential issues proactively. This foresight enables users to adjust settings or schedule component replacements before problems escalate, thus avoiding unexpected damages or breakdowns, minimizing unplanned service visits, and cutting costs. Additionally, maintaining the machine’s availability enhances overall production efficiency.
Rapid Issue Resolution Without Service Interventions
With over 80 percent of service incidents being predictable through digital condition monitoring, TRUMPF has made it possible for service engineers to guide customers through potential solutions remotely. In many cases, issues can be resolved without the need for an on-site visit, saving both time and expenses.
TRUMPF has even reached a point where customers can independently troubleshoot issues in three out of four instances, using detailed step-by-step instructions or collaborating with a TRUMPF service engineer remotely.
For this system to function effectively, machines must be online and connected to the TRUMPF network. The company prioritizes maximum information security and data protection to ensure that data remains secure from unauthorized access.
