- Propeller Technologies innovates Medical Robots, which is now deployed at many hospitals in Chennai
- ZAFI, ZAFI MEDIC & ZAFI GO provides ease of work in isolation wards
- Now these robots will assist the police department for helping people during the lockdown in isolated areas
Tamil Nadu is one of the most affected COVID19 states in India, and Trichy based Propeller Technologies is being part of the biggest fight the state witnessed in recent times. On 3rd of April, Dr. C Vijayabhaskar, Health Minister, Government of Tamil Nadu inaugurated humanoid robot service at Chennai’s Stanley Medical College. The robots are equipped to deliver food and medicines to COVID-19 patients under quarantine. These robots are voice interactive and assist medical staff in bringing the required items without any human contact.

‘Little by little, a little becomes a lot' seems like India is following this mantra to fight the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak in the country because a lot of start-ups and other organizations are contributing little by little with their services and innovations. Propeller Technologies, making robots for educational purposes providing ease of learning, rose to the occasion, when the country needed their exposure the most to fight COVID19. The team headed by their CEO Aashik Rahman updated their education robots to medical robots, which are now successfully deployed and helping the medical workers in Chennai.
“When the nationwide lockdown was announced we decided to help the medical fraternity, to be part of the fight, redesigned our robots understanding unique requirements”, said Aashik Rahman talking to us about the innovation which is now manning several isolation wards where COVID19 patients are treated.“Once the prototype was ready, it was given to hospitals for testing purposes, and with the feedback received from the medical team, they made changes, developed two models, which was efficient in providing the required assistance to the medical workers”, adds Mr. Rahman.
When we asked about the idea, and the spirit to innovate, he said “ We are engineers, we cannot do the doctor’s work, but can make a big difference by providing solutions which can support and reduce their novel efforts. Hence we decided to update our robots and provide to the hospitals”.
Propeller Technologies have made three different variants of Medical Robots and are looking forward to giving these robots for helping hospitals and police departments. They were also able to sell 10 robots to Stanley Government Hospital, Chennai
Currently, Propeller technologies have manufactured 3 variants of the robots named Zafi, Zafi Go, and Zafi Medic. Zafi is a medical robot that can be used as a medical assistant for contactless solutions and has a payload capacity of 6 kg, it also has a voice interactive system.
The Zafi Go has multiple trays and has a payload capacity of 15 – 20 kg and has a visual system and has a radio-controlled system which can work till 1500 meters. This robot can be used in isolation wards to deliver food to the patients and can also be used by doctors to interact with the patient without having to enter the isolation wards.
The Zafi Medic is a multi-terrain robot which means it can travel on any kind of surface. It has a payload capacity of 25 kg and also has a radio-controlled system. This robot can be used by the police department for delivering essentials in the lockdown areas. Mansoor Ali Khan – Al Buhari, Chairman of MAUTOPRIDE was very vocal in bringing these innovations to the forefront through social media channels. In his LinkedIn post, he congratulated Aashik Rahman for unveiling ZAFI & ZAFI MEDIC.
Due to the increasing demand for the robots, Propeller Technologies is collaborating with Sastra University, Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu to scale up the project. “We are looking forward to helping more hospitals and also police department by providing these robots for free of charge”, concludes Aashik.
