UNITED GRINDING unveils New Automation Solutions at GrindingHub 2024

The UNITED GRINDING Group unveiled a cutting-edge automation solution in tool machining at this year’s GrindingHub, held under the theme “Stay Connected.” The highlight of their presentation was the introduction of an innovative mobile transport robot, showcased to an eager audience on the first day of the trade show.

At 10 a.m., the covers came off the WALTER innovation, revealing a mobile transport robot that autonomously moves between the HELITRONIC VISION 400 L high-end tool grinding machine and the fully automatic HELICHECK PLUS measuring machine. Dubbed “Automated Tool Production” (ATP), this new system enables automatic loading and unloading of cylindrical precision tools, featuring at least one robot cell accessible from the front and a mobile transport robot that ferries workpiece pallets and individual parts between storage and processing stations. Impressively, the ATP system can integrate seamlessly not only with WALTER machines but also with those from third-party suppliers.

Adding to the excitement, WALTER also debuted the VISION LASER machine, introducing laser technology to tool machining. This new machine is designed for machining cutting tools with inserts, utilizing a reliable, industry-proven laser system paired with encapsulated optical modules to ensure high machine availability.

Broad Display of Technological Advances

Beyond these innovations, visitors to the UNITED GRINDING booth explored a diverse array of technologies displayed on 12 machines encompassing grinding, eroding, lasering, measuring, and additive manufacturing. Highlights included BLOHM’s tool changer for the PLANOMAT XT, STUDER’s new insertLoad automation system for the S31 and S33 cylindrical grinding machines, and IRPD’s IMPACT 4530, the first industrial additive machine tool made in Switzerland, known for its high precision and user-friendliness.

The trade show’s “Stay Connected” theme resonated throughout the booth, where visitors could learn about numerous connectivity solutions. These included UNITED GRINDING Digital Solutions™ for digital customer care, and the universal, manufacturer-independent umati data interface that facilitates seamless machine communication.

Four lucky visitors won PlayStation PS5 consoles by participating in an interactive game on a C.O.R.E. panel, further highlighting the engaging and innovative atmosphere of the booth.
