On July 29, 2023, SEMI, a global association connecting electronics design and manufacturing companies, announced its intention to support the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) in establishing a thriving semiconductor manufacturing and design ecosystem in India. The collaboration aims to build on ISM’s successful SemiconIndia editions and uphold SEMI’s tradition of bringing together stakeholders in the semiconductor industry. An MOU is currently being developed to formalize the partnership.
SEMI is in discussions with the Electronic Industries Association of India (ELCINA) and Messe München India (MMI) to join as key partners in organizing its flagship event, SEMICON India. The ISM has acknowledged that SEMICON India would complement the government of India’s efforts to advance the domestic semiconductor ecosystem and strengthen ties with the global industry.
Ajit Manocha, SEMI President and CEO, highlighted the significance of the establishment of SEMICON India, emphasizing SEMI’s long-standing role as a key facilitator of industry growth for over 50 years.

Through this partnership, Indian semiconductor and electronics companies will gain access to over 2,500 SEMI member companies worldwide, fostering collaboration and providing a platform for stakeholder participation in SEMI initiatives covering areas such as Workforce Development, Sustainability, and Supply Chain Management.
Bhupinder Singh, CEO of Messe München India, expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration, praising ISM’s initiatives in establishing semiconductor design, manufacturing, packaging, and R&D in the region. Messe München India looks forward to organizing SEMICON India in collaboration with ELCINA, building upon their successful work with SEMI in staging events in Europe and China. Sanjay Agarwal, President of ELCINA, underlined the importance of the semiconductor industry in India’s electronics ecosystem, considering it a strategic enabler of economic growth. The partnership with SEMI holds immense value as it enables the strengthening of the semiconductor industry in India, fostering global partnerships and positioning India as a trusted partner to chip companies worldwide.
SEMI’s plans for SEMICON India align with India’s aspiration to emerge as a prominent destination for semiconductor manufacturing, with the collaboration serving as a significant step towards realizing this vision.
The partnership between SEMI, ISM, ELCINA, and Messe München India marks a pivotal moment in India’s semiconductor journey, driving the growth of the semiconductor and electronics industry and paving the way for self-reliance in this critical sector.
