In a bid to build Aatmanirbhar Bharat, the government has stressed on ‘Make in India’ through ‘Vocal for Local’ campaign. Indigenous Defence Manufacturing looms large promisingly in India’s manufacturing horizon as the next big chapter in India’s manufacturing saga. Centre announced a ‘negative list’ involved a list of 101 defence items that are banned from being imported, marking India’s significant move towards becoming a self-sufficient defence manufacturing.
Curtailing erstwhile predominant imports in defence, Government has set out to award $53billion worth of defence contracts over the next six to seven years to Indian companies. There are opportunities galore for Indian manufacturers. But what must they need to do to capitalise on the opportunities? What level of manufacturing infrastructure must be built? What are the current challenges? How soon can they be overcome? Machine Maker will explore all such angles to this development in its weekly debate titled ‘Will Self Reliance in Defence open up opportunities for Indian suppliers?’ on 11 September 2020 (4 pm onwards).

Despite defence offset policy (30%) for the last 15 odd years, why we still import 70-75% of our budget and much more. This debate will be followed up by a highly engaging Q&A session.
