Ahead of the much-anticipated major exhibition for the grinding technology sector in Stuttgart from May 14th to 17th, GrindingHub 2024 Preview recently offered a glimpse into the latest innovations shaping the industry. Hosted by VDW (German Machine Tool Builders’ Association), the event showcased cutting-edge products and insights to approximately 30 international trade journalists, setting the stage for what promises to be a groundbreaking exhibition.
Martin Göbel, Head of Trade Fairs and Events at VDW, expressed his delight at the enthusiastic response from both start-ups and global players, who seized the opportunity to present their highlights before the industry’s key event. Joining him were prominent names including Adelbert Haas GmbH, Anca Europe GmbH, DMG Mori, Fives Group, and Mitsubishi Electric B.V., among others. The event also featured umati, a joint connectivity initiative by VDW and VDMA, and the “Grinder of the Year” competition, showcasing emerging talent in the field.
GrindingHub has solidified its position as an international innovation platform for grinding technology, exemplified by Peter Breuer’s keynote on “Digital Assistance Systems in Grinding Technology” from the Manufacturing Technology Institute (MTI) at RWTH Aachen University. Breuer emphasized the importance of bridging the gap between research and industrial production, a sentiment echoed by many industry experts present at the event.
With 487 exhibitors from 31 countries, including Germany, Switzerland, China, Italy, and Japan, GrindingHub represents the entire grinding process chain across 40 sectors. Despite economic uncertainties, the sector has shown resilience, with grinding technology experiencing exceptional growth in 2023. According to VDW estimates, production in Germany surged by 15 percent to EUR 1.1 billion, outpacing the overall machine tool industry growth. This growth was primarily driven by exports, signaling the industry’s robust international presence.
Martin Göbel emphasized the significance of GrindingHub amid slowing incoming orders, stating, “The sector needs stimulus for a recovery. GrindingHub can provide it.” As the world’s second-largest market for grinding technology, Germany remains a focal point for industry players seeking to navigate challenging economic conditions.
As the industry eagerly awaits the doors to open at Stuttgart, GrindingHub 2024 Preview has set the stage for a dynamic exchange of ideas, innovations, and partnerships, poised to invigorate the grinding machinery business and drive future growth.
