The 40th edition of ADIPEC, the world’s largest energy event, promises to be a landmark occasion for the global energy sector as it brings together industry leaders, experts, and visionaries to explore the critical relationship between energy and artificial intelligence (AI). Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates, and hosted by the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), ADIPEC 2024 will be held in Abu Dhabi from 4th to 7th November 2024.

ADIPEC 2024 takes on special significance as it marks four decades of ADIPEC’s global influence and innovation in the energy industry. Tayba Al Hashemi, Chair of ADIPEC 2024 and CEO of ADNOC Offshore highlighted the importance of the AI-energy nexus, stating, “AI needs energy, and energy needs AI. This AI-energy nexus will be a major focus of ADIPEC’s milestone 40th edition. Bringing global leaders and innovators together, we will discuss AI’s potential to transform economies and industries, particularly its role in accelerating a just, orderly and equitable energy transition.”

With the ever-pressing need for decarbonisation and energy efficiency, ADIPEC 2024 offers an unprecedented platform for over 184,000 attendees and more than 1,800 thought leaders, innovators, and specialists from various sectors, including energy, AI, finance, and technology. The event will offer insights into how AI and emerging technologies can be harnessed to fast-track the global energy transition while addressing sustainability, equity, and cross-sector collaboration challenges.

AI’s Role in Energy Transition and Decarbonisation

The energy sector is rapidly evolving, with AI increasingly seen as a game-changer for energy production, distribution, and management. ADIPEC 2024 will be pivotal in exploring how AI can be used to make energy systems more efficient and sustainable. The event’s Strategic Conference will gather some of the most influential voices in the industry to delve into how technological innovation, particularly AI, can contribute to a more sustainable future.

“AI can provide the solutions we need to accelerate a just, orderly, and equitable energy transition,” said Tayba Al Hashemi, highlighting how artificial intelligence has the potential to revolutionize energy systems, from optimizing power generation and distribution to improving resource efficiency and driving advancements in carbon capture technologies.

The conference will also place a strong emphasis on the importance of cross-sector partnerships, recognizing that achieving net-zero emissions requires collaboration across industries. Christopher Hudson, President of dmg events, echoed this sentiment: “Marking 40 years since its inception, ADIPEC 2024 will be the most ambitious edition yet. The international community and global energy ecosystem will unite around the need for decisive action to secure net zero. Featuring innovative technologies, valuable insights, and influential voices, the event will deliver a renewed global commitment to creating a secure, equitable, and sustainable energy future for all.”

Inaugural Energyai Exhibition and AI Conference

A key feature of this year’s ADIPEC is the inaugural Energyai exhibition, hosted by ADNOC, which will showcase how AI is shaping the energy value chain. From automating operations to enhancing decision-making processes, AI’s growing influence on energy systems will be explored in detail, offering a glimpse into the future of energy driven by next-generation technologies.

Energyai will also feature a dedicated AI Conference, gathering leaders from the energy, technology, and government sectors. These discussions will focus on integrating AI into the energy landscape, with the aim of developing a strategic roadmap for the future. Leaders will explore how AI can drive efficiency across the entire energy value chain, including production, distribution, and consumption, while simultaneously addressing the energy demands that AI itself will place on global systems.

This intersection of AI and energy is not just about increasing efficiency but also about enabling the energy sector to decarbonize more quickly. The integration of AI into energy operations is expected to accelerate the adoption of carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) technologies, as well as Industry 4.0 solutions such as the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) and predictive analytics.

Three New Conferences to Foster Inclusivity and Sustainability

ADIPEC 2024 is introducing three new conferences that will bring fresh perspectives to the dialogue on energy transition, with a particular focus on inclusivity and sustainability.

The Digitalisation and Technology Conference will explore how next-generation technologies like AI can unlock new decarbonisation opportunities. With the rise of Industry 4.0, this conference will delve into advancements in new materials, IIoT, and CCUS, while addressing the scalability of these technologies in a manner that is both sustainable and equitable.

The Finance and Investment Conference will bring together leaders from government, finance, and energy to tackle one of the most critical issues of the energy transition: capital flows. The conference will address the disparity between the current levels of investment and the funds required to achieve a fair and equitable transition to cleaner energy sources. Participants will discuss how to redirect capital towards low-carbon projects and support developing nations in their transition efforts.

The Voices of Tomorrow Conference will serve as a bridge between the Global North and South, amplifying the voices of youth and emerging leaders in the energy sector. This conference aims to foster a more inclusive dialogue, ensuring that future energy strategies are equitable and reflective of diverse perspectives from all regions of the world.

Leadership Roundtables and Industry Insights

One of the highlights of ADIPEC 2024 will be its Leadership Roundtables, where exclusive, invitation-only discussions will take place between some of the world’s top decision-makers in energy, AI, and technology. These closed-door roundtables will focus on the critical relationship between AI and energy, exploring how artificial intelligence can accelerate the development of future-ready energy systems.

The roundtables will also address how AI can support the creation of a resilient and sustainable global energy system. From optimizing supply chains to enhancing safety protocols and reducing emissions, AI’s potential to revolutionize the energy industry will be a recurring theme throughout ADIPEC 2024.

The ADIPEC Exhibition: A Showcase of Global Energy Innovation

Complementing the conferences, the ADIPEC 2024 Exhibition will span 16 halls and feature over 2,200 exhibitors from the entire energy ecosystem. It will showcase the latest breakthroughs in energy technologies and solutions across the value chain, with a particular focus on decarbonisation, digitalisation, maritime and logistics, and AI.

With 54 National Oil Companies (NOCs), International Oil Companies (IOCs), National Energy Companies (NECs), and International Energy Companies (IECs) participating, the exhibition will offer attendees a chance to see firsthand the cutting-edge technologies driving the future of energy. The event will also host 30 dedicated country pavilions, each highlighting their unique contributions to the global energy transition.

As the world seeks to balance the need for energy security with the imperative of decarbonisation, ADIPEC 2024 serves as a vital platform for fostering global collaboration. The inclusion of new voices from finance, technology, youth, and the Global South ensures that ADIPEC remains at the forefront of driving a more inclusive and sustainable energy future.

With AI poised to play a central role in the energy transition, ADIPEC 2024 will underscore the importance of leveraging technology to meet global climate goals. “We are at a critical moment in the global energy transition,” said Tayba Al Hashemi. “ADIPEC 2024 will demonstrate how AI and other emerging technologies can help us meet the challenges ahead while ensuring a more just and sustainable energy future for all.”
