The people implementing Kaizen believe in the concept of Changing the Gemba to change the behavior of people to develop a good culture. So does Mr. S V Subramaniam, Corporate Trainer and Senior Consultant, Kaizen Institute India and Africa. Prior to taking up training as a profession in Kaizen Institute in the year 2015, Mr. Subramaniam served as a Vice President TQM in the Supreme Group.
In an exclusive interaction with the Machinemaker, Mr. Subramaniam talks about Kaizen principles, its scope in India and the organizations adopting Kaizen and much more.
Kaizen in India
On enquiring about the evolution of Kaizen in India, Mr. Subramaniam says that there are industries in India that have adopted Kaizen. It is not that the people are totally unaware of the concept, but if the word is spread to every person, there would be a high number of people adapting to it and abiding by it. He also adds that in the automotive industry, Kaizen has become a philosophy.
Industry 4.0 and employment
The current trend of Industry 4.0 has taken all over the world. It is the man behind the machine. To match the trend of Industry 4.0, there is a need for people to upgrade their skills and bring a change in their mindsets. Mr. Subramaniam quotes, “We cannot switch to Industry 4.0 overnight. The implementation requires training from the Pioneers. But even we can train the individuals by learning and adopting the training in the Kaizen way.”He adds that there is also a need to upgrade the HR training.
Talking about reduced employment due to upcoming automation trends, he says, that India is a young nation. There are a huge number of young gentry here and hence this becomes the best time to upgrade their skills and shape their future. The young generation can do wonders if they are disciplined and possess good behavior. Also, the graduates must compulsorily go through the training sessions within the industries in order to enhance their skill set.
Kaizen influence on Indian Manufacturing
Kaizen is an outlook to create continuous improvement based on the idea that the small, ongoing positive changes can reap vital improvements. This philosophy can help Indian manufacturing flourish in a rosy way.” The Indian manufacturing has come a long way facing all kinds of hardships but this is not the end, there is still a long to go and with the ideology of ‘Yes I Can! Yes, I Will’ we definitely can excel into the domain of manufacturing.” marks Mr. Subramaniam.
