Making room for women in the manufacturing sector

Neeta was unaware of the aspects of the manufacturing sector and had to learn everything from scratch. She was initially working in accounts, stocking and packaging departments while and concurrently supervising work on the shop floor. Eventually, she grasped the core functioning concepts of the sector and began to climb her way up. “It is the confidence I gained in the process of learning that made be me stick to the sector and grow in it”, Neeta reminisces about her achievements in a sector replete with gender biases.
“It is absolutely possible for women to work in the manufacturing sector and break the norm”, says Neeta. She admits with an honest candor that although concepts were fairly difficult to grasp in the initial days, with her husband’s cooperation she could learn and gain confidence in the work she was committed to. She believes family support is a pillar of strength for women who are eager to work in the manufacturing sector.
Challenging patriarchal perceptions about women’s inability to efficiently juggle work and home, Neeta has set a benchmark with her personal journey of growth and professional success. She continues to flourish in the heavy lifting industry even after managing household chores and taking care of her two children.
Safety of women working with machines
Presently, Neeta has a team of 20 women working in both her Neyochem’s factory units in Pune. She firmly believes that it is possible for women to break the social norms and be at par with men in the manufacturing sector. In her units, Neeta has assured all the necessary safety and security measures.
The squad of women workers are provided with safety jackets and gears so that they do not feel weary of working with machines. To prevent workload drudgery and pave a smooth work-home balance, Neeta allows the women staff members to work in shifts and run family errands in the meantime. Her goal is to recruit women in the manufacturing units of Neyochem and empower them with industry knowledge, awareness and education to help in skill development and instilling self-confidence.
