Backed by Lokesh’s years of expertise in the Plastic Injection Moulding and Tooling Industry, the startup’s growth rate is remarkable and big within a small span of just 2 years after its inception. 

Exclusively sharing his journey with Machine Maker, Lokesh Lalwani, the young Technical Director, Kamal Tools & Dies India Pvt Ltd shares, “Initially, we used to outsource the components and as a startup, we were not offered credit period but we had to offer it to our customers. This was the major challenge for us but, we have now overcome and now we have reached the stage when the suppliers are willing to work with us, owing to our quality standard and on-time delivery coupled with cost competitiveness.”

Taking Dreams with Expertise

The manufacturing journey of the Kamal Tools, a family-owned business has its roots back during the pandemic, when the whole industry was witnessing the lurking crisis due to lockdown. Lokesh, with his family, started Kamal Tools & Dies in the year 2020, taking his dreams of starting something own with the expertise he was carrying with him in the field of Plastic Injection Mold. The foundation of Kamal Tools & Dies India Pvt Ltd was laid by Mr Lalit Bafana, Mr Santosh Lalwani and Mr Badal Bhandari.

Backed by Lokesh's Technical Expertise, the company owns state-of-art Mold Manufacturing and OEMs as the major customers  

The technical leadership of the firm has been backed by Lokesh’s more than 13 years of in-hand experience in the Plastic Industry. Graduated in Mechanical Engineering, he is skilled in Design & Development along with Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) of Tool Development & Projects and now leading the company, to take it to new heights of success.

“We always had a dream of starting something own and as I had 12 years of experience in the Plastic Tooling industry. Thus, we decided to start this company, with the dream of becoming the first-line preference of our customers in the Die & Mold Sector,” explains Lokesh. Upholding the core values of quality and innovation, The Company majorly caters to the manufacturing of the Plastic Injection Molds and Dies for the automotive industries and Electrical Industries along with its manufacturing solutions in engineered polymer-based components, systems, and related services.

Eyeing the OEMs

Cosmos CVM 800 Vertical Machine at Manufacturing unit of Kamal Tools & Dies

Kamal Tools & Dies is operating from its own 10,000 sq ft manufacturing facility at Chinchwad, Pune, which is a full-fledged Tooling Shopfloor with Cosmos CVM 1370, CVM 800 Vertical Machining Center, and Sparkonix S35 and F65+ EDM Machines, which are capable of manufacturing molds for parts of sizes up to 1.5 m x 1 m with a weight of up to 8 Metric Tons.

The manufacturing capacity of the startup also comprises the conventional setup of M1TR, Radial Drill, Lathe and Milling M/c & Surface Grinding Machine. Kamal Tools’ plant encloses the With Double girder crane of capacity 15T & 10T along with molding machines from 150T to 450T.

The startup has been offering Mold Design & Development, Mold Flow Analysis, Manufacturing Soft Tools for Prototyping, Manufacturing of Series Tools for Production and Designing Qualifying Fixtures & Assembly Fixtures.

“It’s been just two years of our operations, which we started without any financial aid or loan. And, we have been growing quite well, with the values of innovation with which, we dreamt make this family-owned business a market leader,” the technical chief of Kamal Tools & Dies India Pvt Ltd narrates. He further adds, “Our strength solely lies in providing the solutions for the OEMs and that is what we will focus more on in the coming years.”

Within just 2 years, the company has proved itself as a successful new-edge Tooling & Molding solution provider and has been supplying its Plastic Injection Molded Parts to almost all Automotive Industries.

The company has been directly supplying its products to Tata Autocomp Systems Limited, TM Automotive Seating Systems Pvt Ltd, Air International Tata Toyo Radiators (TACO Group of Companies), Yanfeng India Automotive Interiors System Pvt Ltd, Permanent Magnets Ltd.

Moreover, the company also handled the installation and commissioning of the Chinese Moulds in India, which suffered a supply chain disruption due to the pandemic. Now, they are endeavoring to start manufacturing directly to the leading OEMs like Mahindra and Volkswagen.

Aspiring the ‘In-House Manufacturing’

The company has significantly achieved a turnover of 4.50 crores and has targeted to reach 50 crores by the year 2025. Speaking on the expansion plans, Lokesh told that they are outsourcing some components but, they are now planning to make its manufacturing operations completely in-house.

Lokesh also told that Kamal Tools would participate in the Exhibition, with the aim of gaining a strong customer base. “Currently, we are planning to get established first and prepare ourselves to identify the business opportunities which we can grab from the exhibition. Afterward, we would be able to bring our innovations in front of the potential customers in the exhibition.” He says.

Concluding his company’s future goals, he concludes, “We are the single stop of all the tooling solutions with the quality tooling standards with affordability and on-time delivery. Inculcating the complete in-house manufacturing in the coming years, we want to become a quality and trustworthy supplier for our customers. Also, we want to reduce the delivery timeline more, which will benefit our customers more.”
