Industry Mourns the Loss of Dr Namasivayam Reguraj: Pillar of Indian Tooling Sector

The tooling and manufacturing industry is in mourning following the passing of Dr Namasivayam Reguraj, the esteemed Executive Vice Chairman of the Nettur Technical Training Foundation (NTTF) and the Founder President of TAGMA India. Renowned for his visionary leadership, unwavering commitment to education, and mentorship to countless professionals, Dr Reguraj’s legacy is one of profound influence and inspirational dedication.

Starting his illustrious career in 1967 at the NTTF Tool Room in Katpadi/ Vellore as an Assistant Business Manager, Dr Namasivayam Reguraj brought with him three years of valuable experience in tooling technology from the Government Tool Room at Guindy, Madras. His practical expertise, coupled with his passion for serving humanity and aligning with the ideals of HEKS – Hilfswerk der Evangelischen Kirchen Schweiz, propelled him to become a key figure in the foundation’s evolution from a modest training centre in Kerala to a renowned multi-location, multi-discipline training institution.

The Bangalore unit of NTTF at Peenya, established in 1977, stands tall today to his persuasive vision that “One Tool Maker can create employment for five, thereby supporting six families, which in turn helps 30 people.” This philosophy spurred the expansion of NTTF and reflected Dr Reguraj’s commitment to using education to serve humanity, aligning with the ideals of HEKS – Hilfswerk der Evangelischen Kirchen Schweiz. Dr. Reguraj’s journey from an eminently qualified Indian Engineer to the youngest General Manager in the history of NTTF in 1973, and his contributions as a member of the First Board of Examiners and Selection Committee, reflect his unwavering dedication to excellence and development in the tooling sector. He was the First Board of Examiner for NTTF Dharwad 1st batch of Tool Maker Examination held in1964 and also was a Selection Committee Member in selecting 4 Tool Maker trainee graduates to NTTF Tool Room Katpadi.

As the First President of TAGMA India, Dr Namasivayam Reguraj was crucial in advancing the Indian tooling fraternity, establishing TAGMA as a globally recognised entity and fostering innovation within the sector. His foresight and leadership have left an indelible mark on the industry, transforming the landscape of manufacturing and tooling in India. Beyond his professional achievements, Dr Reguraj was a compassionate mentor, eager to share his knowledge and experience with the next generation of engineers and toolmakers. His belief in the power of education and training as catalysts for employment and societal improvement was a driving force behind his endeavours.

My heartfelt condolences”, shared DK Sharma, Past President of TAGMA, on his demise. Dr Namasivayam Reguraj’s contributions were pivotal in the development and success of NTTF and TAGMA. They significantly impacted the lives of many individuals and families by creating opportunities for growth and development.
