Accu Measuring Solutions is one of the first 3D metrology service providers in India with a wide range of solutions and services, and highly skilled metrology domain experts. Celebrating a decade of its journey with many prestigious achievements to its credit, the company is geared up to make a greater impact in the metrology industry.
Pune based Accu Measuring Solutions (AMS) was one of the first few 3D metrology solutions and service providers in India, making its footprint at a time when PCMM or 3D scanning was making its foothold in the Indian industries.
Today, AMS is synonymous with 3D metrology solutions in India for supporting a customer on-site and off-site for Portable CMM First Article Inspection, Laser Tracking Inspection & 3DSCAN Reverse Engineering Solutions.
Machine Maker traced the journey of AMS during the conversation with its Founder & Director Hari Bhawar. For Hari, his decision to pursue the 3D metrology segment was about the market opportunity for this new technology as much as it was for his amazement with it. “When I first saw this technology, I was amazed and chose this area. At that time, traditional stationery CMM was well-known in the Indian industry,” he said.
3D metrology or 3D scanning came as a revolutionary solution for industries that could save time and make the process faster. He explained, “Traditional stationery CMM had limitations. With PCMM or 3D scanning, the assembly process became easier and faster. The parts are not taken to the CMM, but the CMM comes to part, and this saves both effort and time. Today portable equipment has become a major part of the process in the 4.0 industry.”
From QC Operations to Accu Measuring: Initial Journey
Hari graduated in Engineering from Pune University and joined the internship in a tool room of a local mould manufacturer, where he first got the opportunity to work with PCMM technology. Later, he joined an MNC and handled end-to-end QC operations. This is where his exposure to the process taught him the importance of quality in product/ service delivery and future business opportunities in this area.
He admits that this knowledge and understanding paved the way for Accu Measuring Solutions in 2010. “There was a need in the industry to measure accurately with appropriate instruments. And when I became aware of this technology, I saw an opportunity in this field and thus our journey began. It was when 3D and Portable CMM technology were new to the world, and Indian companies were trying to implement this new tech with limited sources. AMS offered its expertise to many companies and provided services, hands-on training, consultation, etc.” he said.
As the company continues to deliver quality, reach, and trust to its customers, it has yielded direct growth in sales of 3D metrology equipment. At the same time, AMS also has equipped itself with the latest technology.
Services Over Investment in Hardware: COVID19 Impact
COVID pandemic has AMS like many other shop-floor based companies as travelling is the major part of its area of work, it has caused many limitations and has affected its services. But, there is some positive to be had also for companies like AMS. “Due to pandemic, all manufacturers have imposed some restrictions on their budget and have started preferring services over-investing in instruments.”
With focus quality and timely service, the company equips its fleet of instruments with new and up-to-date technology-enabled instruments every year. The company follows the AMC and calibration schedule every year. “We believe in quality and accuracy, not only visualisation. We are focused on portability with accuracy”, adds Hari Bhawar who is associated with leading global metrology OEMs, and offering best in class metrology services to Indian manufacturing.
Right Instrument for Quality Service: Boosting ‘Make in India’
“We understand the customer's application and complete the activity with the right instrument. For this, we have high quality and all kinds of tools available. We perform timely calibration and repair of all devices which helps in maintaining quality and our Metrology vehicle is working 24/7 to complete the work on time.”
Today, AMS service is active all over India and the company is serving the industry with ‘total 3D metrology solution under the one roof’ as its motto. The company offers unique services that make it stand out from the rest of its competitors. “We are involved in everything from drawing development to product dispatch. We have all such devices and resources available. So, once the customer comes to us, there is no need to go elsewhere.”
With Polyworks India and API India as its major service partners, the company has executed many prestigious projects. Tata Boeing Aerospace delivered the 100th fuselage for the AH-64 Apache Combat Helicopter and the AMS team has been working on the project for the last 5 years. The company also worked on Tata Motors' Q5 (Harrier) project, Mahindra's W601 project and many other milestone projects units sleeves.
The company is also focused on contributing to the skill development in the segment. AMS is empowering the workforce by giving them unique learning opportunities on the shop floor. “We recruit freshers, train them as per our method for six months and make them skilled. Many of the engineers who have worked with us are working well in multinational companies.”
Metrology Industry to Flourish in India
Hari opines that the metrology industry will only flourish in India as Indian manufacturers are becoming more and more focusing on precision manufacturing and world-class competitiveness. He feels that the use of automation tools will increase in the future in the metrology industry; however, automation is also expected to reduce jobs in the metrology industry.
As for AMS, the company completed a decade of successful service to the industry and is geared up to reach new heights. “We are celebrating this year as a successful decade. We have been in services for 10 years and will continue to do so. Soon we will be entering the sales business along with services”, Hari Bhawar concludes.
