How Devesh set-up Hardai ARMND? The Innovative Journey of Molykul!

With a vision to reduce industrial waste, Hardai ARMND Engineering Solutions, led by Devesh Upadhyay, is advancing engineering with its innovation, Molykul—the MOS2-based lubrication for manufacturing, defence, and aerospace. Their technologies, including Molykul Spin bearings and Molykul Grease, aim to improve machinery performance and extend component life while reducing industrial waste.

Devesh Upadhyay‘s journey in technology and manufacturing is driven by a desire to solve real-world problems, tenacity, and passion. His father, Dr Ramphal Sharma, is a well-known Scientist who has worked in academics for over 35 years. Dr Sharma was passionate about material science and developed and invented many materials. Devesh witnessed his father’s research and innovations as a child, and his lessons guided him throughout his career.

“During my childhood, I witnessed how my father was deeply involved in science. He used to teach me, and in the morning, he would wake me up and ask questions about those topics. If I answered correctly, I would have been allowed to get some more sleep. This small incentive inspired me to ensure I learn right”, shares Devesh Upadhyay, sharing his journey with Machine Maker. His mother, Malti Sharma, a well-known social activist and teacher, has always been the support system of his life, his all-time friend and teacher.

Devesh absorbed everything he could from his father’s work as a child. He was deeply influenced by his father’s dedication to innovating effective and dependable new materials. His early exposure to engineering shaped his future, inspiring him to pursue a career where he could contribute to a fantastic solution. After completing his primary education, he studied mechanical engineering at SRM University in Chennai. He developed a particular interest in materials science-related advanced manufacturing technologies during his time there.

Initial Journey with at NFTDC Hyderabad: Advanced Technology for Defence

After completing his engineering studies, Devesh bagged a job at the Nonferrous Materials Technology Development Centre (Ministry of Mines) as a Project Engineer, where he was exposed to high-end technology. “During the next four years, I worked on projects from the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO), Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), and PMO’s BioMedical projects involving Robotics, Precision Engineering and Manufacturing after graduating”, adds Devesh.

During his employment, Devesh Upadhyay made significant commitments, including developing UAV components, Nano polished knee prosthetics, Robots, aircraft components, high-performance bearings test rigs and many more. This experience enhanced his technical skills and strengthened his belief that India could lead in advanced technology. Furthermore, he was part of the team which developed India’s first 100% Indigenous Selective Laser Sintering 3D printer at Sahajanand Technology Private Limited, Surat, Gujarat.

Meanwhile, inspired by his father’s life of inventing materials, including the revolutionary MOS2, Devesh’s interest shifted to investigating the potential of molybdenum disulfide (MOS2) as a solid lubricant. He developed a keen interest in how such materials could improve machinery’s efficiency and longevity.

Setting up Hardai ARMND: Innovative Journey of Molykul

In 2021, with all of his knowledge and experience, Devesh founded Hardai ARMND Engineering Solutions. “I wanted to make a difference in my life for my country, create a company that could offer advanced engineering solutions for industries like defence, aerospace, and manufacturing”, adds Devesh. The company quickly gained attention for its expertise in MOS2-based solid lubrication, a field that Devesh had long been passionate about.

What set Hardai ARMND Engineering Solutions apart was Devesh Upadhyay’s deep understanding of MOS2 and its unique properties. His father, Dr Ramphal Sharma, made the compound 100% in India at the quantum dot. MOS2 outperformed traditional lubricants in high-stress environments, reducing machinery wear and tear and extending the lifespan of essential components. This innovation provided industries with more efficient, durable, and sustainable solutions.

For Devesh, founding Hardai ARMND meant significantly impacting the country and society. His approach to product development reflects his belief that technology should solve real problems and make life easier. Each product is designed with the end user in mind to guarantee that it works well and meets the highest quality standards.

Overcoming Challenges with Determination

One of Devesh’s most significant challenges was raising awareness about the benefits of advanced lubrication solutions like MOS2. Many industries were unaware of its advantages, and Hardai ARMND Engineering Solutions was responsible for producing these solutions and educating clients on improving their operations. Starting a company from scratch in such a specialised field wasn’t easy. Devesh Upadhyay faced challenges such as sourcing high-quality raw materials and convincing clients to try something new.  However, his determination never faltered. He leaned on the values his father had taught him—determination, attention to detail, and a commitment to quality. Devesh also remained deeply involved in the research and development process, confirming that Hardai’s products stayed at the cutting edge of innovation.
