Giancarlo Losma, former President of UCIMU-SISTEMI PER PRODURRE, breathed his last on 30 April 2021. The kinship he once built today mourns the loss of a visionary entrepreneur and founder of Losma SpA based in Curno. For most of Losma’s life, he was dedicated to expanding his entrepreneurial dreams, which could be finally materialized in his 70s. As an entrepreneur, Giancarlo Losma was stern to integrate the tenets of environmental sustainability within the operational framework of the factory.
Even being a septuagenarian entrepreneur, Losma could not be daunted from innovating to grow his brainchild Losma SpA, world-class designer and manufacturer of air and coolant filtration systems for machine tools, till it reached the zenith of success and became an international leader in its niche. Losma SpA forayed into the USA, Germany, and Great Britain. Founder Giancarlo Losma was keenly invested to extend the operations from Curno headquarters believing, “Here, there’s no room for anything more.”
Giancarlo Losma’s commitment to his dream is unanimously acknowledged by the employees. His career spans through decades during when Losma held a position of authority and reverence. His association with UCIMU-SISTEMI PER PRODURRE from 1989 to 1996 witnessed his leadership qualities as a member of the Steering Committee. He would later become the President after briefly serving as the Vice-President from 2003 to 2008. In 2011, Giancarlo Losma served as the President at FEDERMACCHINE.
“He was fond of Indian food and liked to try out new things, and also expressed his desire to visit some exotic places within the country,” Vrushal Phadnis, first Indian employee of Losma India, and now heading the organization as its Director, earnestly pens down snippets from his association with Giancarlo Losma.
Vrushal remembers that Mr Losma made it amply clear that customer experience and satisfaction comes first, profits come next, due to which Losma India developed a strong service support infrastructure. “His vision and support made it possible for us to establish the Losma subsidiary in India to manufacture and cater to the fast growing India market. He made several visits to India over the years, and took keen interest in all the employees of the company, shopfloor and managerial”, adds Mr Phadnis.
Giancarlo Losma’s association was later strengthened with subsequent several visits to India following the establishment of the Losma India subsidiary. Giancarlo Losma took the reins proactively and was strongly invested in the national market. He believed in supplying products and solutions that were a potential techno-commercial fit.
Condolences and heartfelt messages pour in from professionals who had shared the workspace with Giancarlo Losma. Alfredo Mariotti, General Manager of UCIMU-SISTEMI PER PRODURRE, talks about the humility of Losma as a leader. “The passing of President Losma is a great loss for me and all employees of UCIMU. We will remember him for his frankness in speaking and his great kindness.”
As affirmed by people who had shared the journey with Giancarlo Losma for decades, his entrepreneurial zeal is not manifested in brazenly making profits but towards achieving customer satisfaction which he always prioritized above business profits. Barbara Colombo, president of UCIMU-SISTEMI PER PRODURRE, writes, “We are stunned and grieve the loss of Giancarlo, our colleague, and dear friend, with whom we shared important battles and achieved significant goals. His commitment and dedication to UCIMU prove that he considered our association as an integral part of his professional activity, devoting time and effort to it.
Giancarlo Losma was a visionary who foresaw the need for shopfloor pollution control and established Losma group in 1974. He believed in supplying products and solutions that were a good techno-commercial fit. “He was humble and soft-spoken person who was at the helm of company matters even at the age of 74, and still carried a strong entrepreneurial zeal at that age”, adds Vrushal Phadnis.
“Personally, his passing away is a great loss to me, and all the employees of Losma India, as we saw a great human being in our company boss. We intend to carry forward his legacy,” mournfully adds Mr Phadnis. His sentiment on the passing away of the great leader is echoed by the industry professionals and colleagues of Giancarlo Losma.
