ZF Wind Power, a division of ZF Group, has reached a major milestone by producing 50 gigawatts of wind gearboxes at its Tamil Nadu facility, the company announced on Tuesday. This achievement underscores ZF’s commitment to the Indian market, where it has invested €230 million in its Coimbatore plant.
The Coimbatore facility, the largest wind gearbox production plant outside of China, highlights ZF Group’s dedication to the Indian wind sector. “ZF Wind Power is a key player in India’s gearbox market, supplying gearboxes both domestically and internationally under the ‘Make in India’ initiative. Our investment in expanding production facilities demonstrates our long-term commitment and the growth potential of the region,” said Professor Dr. Peter Laier, ZF Group Member of the Board of Management.
ZF Wind Power is focused on supporting India’s goal to double its wind power capacity by 2030, with plans to increase the Coimbatore plant’s manufacturing capacity from 9 GW to 12 GW annually. “We are honored to be the only plant in India to achieve this milestone. Our commitment to sustainability, combined with ZF’s emphasis on quality and innovation, has solidified our leadership in the Indian wind gearbox market,” stated Akash Passey, President of ZF Group India.
Earlier this year, ZF announced an investment of ₹750 crore for expanding its production capabilities during the Global Investors Meet in Chennai. The Coimbatore plant, spanning over 120,000 square meters, includes a state-of-the-art research and development center and serves as a major service hub for ZF Wind Power. Deepak Pohekar, Head of the Coimbatore plant, emphasized the facility’s role in adapting to both local and global customer demands and its focus on advanced technologies to reduce environmental impact.
