ZF Commercial Vehicle Solutions (CVS) division has secured a significant long-term contract with Ford Trucks, reinforcing its position as a leading producer of electric drives in Europe. Under this agreement, Ford Trucks will integrate ZF’s cutting-edge zero-emission technologies into its upcoming range of heavy electric trucks.
Prof. Dr. Peter Laier, a member of ZF’s Board of Management and head of the CVS division, emphasized the importance of this partnership: “Securing Ford Trucks as a major international customer for our new e-mobility drive platform highlights our leading role in Europe’s electric commercial vehicle sector. This trust reflects our capability to provide top-tier solutions that support our clients’ shift towards sustainable transportation.”
Ford Trucks Vice President Emrah Duman noted that ZF’s commitment to innovation, product readiness, and stringent quality standards played a crucial role in the decision. He added, “A robust sustainability roadmap from our suppliers is crucial in our mission to develop top-tier commercial vehicles that advance sustainable transport. ZF’s longstanding reputation and its alignment with our goals further reinforce Ford Trucks’ dedication to pioneering sustainable transport solutions.”
ZF will initially provide its CeTrax 2 dual electric central drive for Ford Trucks’ upcoming Electric Rigid Truck, which will be unveiled at the IAA Transportation 2024. The agreement also includes supplying additional electric drive variants for future models.
The CeTrax 2 series features a compact and modular design, allowing it to be installed in the same space as a traditional internal combustion engine (ICE) transmission. This flexibility supports manufacturers in transitioning to electric drivetrains, particularly during the initial phase when production volumes are lower compared to conventional ICE vehicles.
Additionally, ZF will equip Ford Trucks’ Electric Rigid Truck with its Electrically Powered Hydraulic Steering Pump (EPHS). This steering system, powered by an electric motor, provides on-demand hydraulic flow, ensuring efficient operation of the steering system regardless of the vehicle’s drivetrain.
