ZF, a global leader in brake systems, has achieved the production of 250 million Electric Parking Brake (EPB) units, reinforcing its position at the forefront of the industry. This milestone highlights ZF’s ongoing commitment to enhancing brake system performance, driver safety, and comfort.

The EPB not only reduces the weight of the brake system, improving fuel economy, but also represents a significant advancement in the electrification of mechanical systems. When integrated with other vehicle technologies, it enables features such as two-wheel anti-lock emergency stops and offers convenient activation with a single button press.

The EPB goes beyond just parking functions. It is fully integrated into the brake system with dynamic actuation, brake pad wear sensing, and a reduced risk of degradation compared to traditional mechanical systems.

“When the shift towards electrifying brake functions started in the early 2000s, ZF was already established as a leader in the braking market,” said Danny Milot, Senior Vice President Braking Engineering. “The success of the EPB further cements our position, as this technology is now featured in a wide range of vehicles, from compact cars to SUVs and pick-up trucks.”

ZF continues to lead in braking technology, offering an extensive portfolio of park brake solutions, including integrated park brake systems and full EPB systems. With over three billion braking parts sold in more than 50 years, ZF remains at the cutting edge of innovation in electronically controlled steering, braking, and damping systems for the future of automotive software-defined vehicles.

“As we advance towards more automated driving, vehicle electrification, and enhanced safety, braking systems remain critical,” Milot said. “ZF will continue to lead in innovation, setting new standards for the industry.”
