ZF Commercial Vehicle Control Systems India Limited has secured accreditation from the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL) for its Hemi Anechoic Chamber Testing Laboratory at its proving ground near Chennai. The accreditation is based on the ISO/IEC 17025:2017 standard, which recognises the technical competence, testing procedures and quality management systems of laboratories. The facility is among the few NABL-accredited Hemi Anechoic Chambers in India.
The accreditation enables ZF CVCS India to provide independently validated acoustic testing services for automotive manufacturers and suppliers. It covers testing requirements for conventional as well as electrified vehicle technologies, including compressors, pumps, braking systems, steering systems, electric motors and electronic systems.
The 144 sq. m Hemi Anechoic Chamber can test vehicles up to five metres in length and 2.5 metres in height under controlled acoustic conditions. With background noise levels below 20 dBA and a 100 Hz cut-off frequency, the facility is designed for acoustic characterisation and noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) evaluation of vehicle systems and components.
The accreditation comes as automotive manufacturers increase their focus on noise and vibration performance amid the shift towards electrification and software-defined vehicles. ZF said the facility will support accurate and repeatable testing while helping customers meet development and regulatory requirements.
Paramjit Singh Chadha, Managing Director, ZF Commercial Vehicle Control Systems India Ltd, said, “This achievement is an important milestone in our journey to build world-class engineering and validation capabilities in India. The NABL accreditation enables us to support customers with reliable, traceable and globally accepted testing services that help accelerate product development and validation across vehicle segments.”
The Hemi Anechoic Chamber is part of ZF’s approximately 200-acre proving ground near Chennai. The TÜV-certified facility was inaugurated in 2001 as India’s first privately owned automotive proving ground and supports development, validation and homologation activities for two-wheelers, three-wheelers, passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles and off-highway applications.
The proving ground includes ABS/EBS braking tracks, ESC validation infrastructure, high-speed and gradient test tracks, EV charging facilities, workshops and instrumentation support. The facility currently serves more than 50 customers, including OEMs, suppliers and technology companies.
The NABL accreditation is valid through July 2030. Through NABL’s international mutual recognition framework, test reports issued by the accredited laboratory can be recognised in more than 100 countries. ZF said the combination of accredited NVH testing with vehicle dynamics, braking, stability control and durability testing provides customers with access to multiple validation capabilities at a single location.
ZF Commercial Vehicle Control Systems India operates six manufacturing facilities, a technology development support centre, a vehicle testing facility and a nationwide aftermarket distribution and service network. The company employs around 5,000 people and reported revenue of ₹4,302 crore for FY2025-26.
