Zetwerk Manufacturing Businesses, a contract manufacturing marketplace, has teamed up with SMILE Electronics, an electronics manufacturing services company, to open three new factories for IT hardware production in India.

One of the factories is located near Bengaluru, in Devanahalli. It features fully automated production lines capable of assembling, testing, and packaging products like desktops, laptops, energy meters, and remote controls. Zetwerk announced this on Monday.

Zetwerk has committed to investing Rs 1,000 crore to enhance electronic system design and manufacturing (ESDM) capabilities in the country. Partnering with Zetwerk, SMILE Electronics will also open two more factories, one in Chennai and another in Andhra Pradesh. This expansion will strengthen SMILE’s presence in South India, increasing its total number of factories with Zetwerk to four, including their existing facility in Bengaluru.

Additionally, Zetwerk operates four factories in North India, which produce mobile phones, telecom devices, smart meters, television and display devices, and wearable technology. “SMILE aims to be the strategic partner for major Original Design Manufacturers (ODMs) and Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs),” said Mukesh Gupta, Chairman of SMILE Electronics. “Our 750 skilled employees across various industries manage a wide-ranging portfolio, catering to both low-mix, high-volume, and high-mix, low-volume production needs. This partnership with Zetwerk offers the perfect synergy as SMILE aims to become a leading Indian ESDM company, while Zetwerk gains expertise in the growing IT hardware industry,” Gupta added.

Rahul Sharma, Co-founder of Zetwerk, stated, “By combining our strengths, we aim to boost the growth of the domestic electronics ecosystem, create significant job opportunities, and contribute to India’s journey to become a global manufacturing powerhouse.”

SMILE Electronics is part of the government’s IT hardware Production Linked Incentive (PLI) schemes 1.0 and 2.0. Over the past three years, SMILE has manufactured and supplied millions of desktop PC components and electronic devices sold on major platforms.
