XCMG Group has outlined three key priorities for accelerating the green transformation of the global mining industry — sustained research and development, end-to-end digitalisation and deeper local partnerships — at the Boao Forum for Asia Perth Conference 2026. The conference, co-hosted by the Boao Forum for Asia and Fortescue under the theme “The Next Phase of Green Industry Cooperation,” brought together around 200 representatives from government, industry, technology, finance and research institutions to discuss opportunities for advancing green industrial development.
During a roundtable on innovation, artificial intelligence and finance cooperation, Yang Dongsheng, Chairman of XCMG Group and XCMG Machinery, highlighted the growing role of technology in improving the environmental and operational performance of mining. He said the mining and manufacturing industries face a common challenge of turning innovation, AI and digital technologies into practical solutions that support sustainable growth. According to Yang, long-term investment in R&D, digital transformation across operations and greater localisation need to progress together.
XCMG is focusing on the development of new-energy mining and construction equipment, combined with digital platforms and smart, low-carbon solutions. The company aims to provide equipment, technology and digital capabilities to support the energy transition in Australia and other major mining markets.
Yang said artificial intelligence can play an important role in improving equipment performance, enabling autonomous operations and supporting data-based optimisation. These technologies can help mining companies improve productivity while reducing energy consumption and emissions.
XCMG’s approach is supported by its growing presence in Australia, where the company has pursued a long-term strategy combining technology development with local market knowledge. The company is expanding its portfolio of electric and other new-energy equipment while developing digital and autonomous solutions for mining operations.
The company has also signed what it describes as China’s largest export order for green mining machinery with Fortescue. Under the agreement, electric mining equipment will be progressively deployed at Fortescue’s Pilbara operations in Western Australia, supporting the mining company’s goal of achieving zero-emissions operations by 2030.
Following the Perth conference, international delegates visited Fortescue’s mining operations in the Pilbara region, providing an opportunity to see the operating environment in which the new electric equipment will be deployed. XCMG said its strategy in Australia will continue to focus on technology investment, product localisation and partnerships with customers and industry stakeholders.
As mining companies accelerate their transition towards electrification, automation and lower-carbon operations, XCMG is expanding its work in new-energy equipment, smart mining technologies and green manufacturing. The company said continued investment in innovation and digital solutions will remain central to its efforts to support customers, reduce emissions across its value chain and contribute to the broader global energy transition.
