WIKA India Embraces Renewable Energy: All four plants to go fully green

Gaurav Bawa, Managing Director and Senior Vice President, WIKA India

The Ghaziabad factory of WIKA India, one of the pioneer organizations when it comes to pressure, temperature level, force, and flow measurement, is now fully solar-powered, making it one of the very few industries to go all green. All the other plants of WIKA in cities such as Pune, Chennai, and Faridabad, too, operate on solar energy. The new rooftop solar installations in Ghaziabad can generate up to 0.5 MW of energy, which has been seen as a great step towards a more sustainable and greener future.

WIKA India, a subsidiary of WIKA Global, has been in the industry for twenty-five years now, while its parent organisation was established in the late 1940s. When asked about WIKA’s commitment to the environment, Gaurav Bawa, Sr. Vice President of WIKA India, said, “This initiative is a significant milestone for us as we continue our journey towards a greener future. WIKA always believes in sustainable operations and strives to incorporate best practices in all its endeavours. The solar system will not only help us to reduce our carbon footprint but also significantly lower our energy costs.”

While they do want to double their turnover by 2025, WIKA’s approach towards this goal is in consideration of environmental norms, leaving little to no carbon footprint. “Advancements in technology in every sector are fundamental to a greener future, and WIKA looks forward to playing a crucial role in market creation and quality interventions towards creating a product line that reflects ‘Engineering Towards Net Zero,” Mr. Bawa added.

The state-of-the-art manufacturing units, which are all solar-driven and spread across the country, are NABL-certified and meet international industry standards (ISO 9001, ISO 14001). “We are not only engineering our products for optimum performance but are ourselves orienting towards best usage of natural resources”, says Mr. Bawa on the main motive of this move.

The manufacturing sector has always been questioned for its effects on the environment and its use of resources. Though a very small initiative, steps like this bring us one step closer towards a sustainable future. The Indian subcontinent is fortunate enough to fall in the global solar belt, which provides a great opportunity for organizations to harness solar energy to its fullest.
