Welspun Corp. has announced that its board has approved a $100 million investment aimed at upgrading its high-frequency induction welding pipe manufacturing and coating capabilities in the United States. The investment, which will be made through Welspun’s wholly owned subsidiary, Welspun Pipes Inc., is intended to enhance the company’s product offerings.
Spread over the next 18 months, the investment will be funded through a combination of local debt and internal accruals. The upgrade will allow Welspun Pipes to produce larger pipe sizes, expanding its capacity to include pipes with an outside diameter of up to 24 inches and a wall thickness of 0.750 inches, as stated in an exchange filing.
This move is part of Welspun’s strategy to strengthen its leadership in the U.S. oil and gas sector, particularly in the oil, liquids, gas, and distribution markets. The enhanced facilities will also position the company to take advantage of the growing market for hydrogen and carbon capture applications across North America.
The company highlighted a positive outlook for the U.S. line pipe market, driven by strong demand from active drilling operations in the Permian Basin and the continued need for new pipelines to transport gas from the region to the Gulf Coast.
