Websol Energy System Limited has officially launched commercial production at its expanded solar cell manufacturing unit in Falta, West Bengal. The new facility adds 600 MW of production capacity, doubling Websol’s total solar cell output to 1.2 GW.
The newly operational line—Phase II of Websol’s ongoing capacity expansion—focuses on Mono PERC solar cells and follows the company’s earlier announcement dated 1st September 2025 regarding its planned scale-up. This milestone underlines Websol’s ability to execute on its long-term strategy and meet the rising demand for solar components in the Indian market.
The new line has been established using entirely internal funding, reflecting the company’s sound financial position and disciplined approach to capital management. The expansion enhances Websol’s ability to offer integrated solutions by aligning its solar cell output with its existing 550 MW solar module capacity, also located at the Falta facility.
As part of the commissioning process, a short-term shutdown of the existing cell and module lines was necessary, resulting in an 8-day operational pause during the quarter. This has led to a one-time impact on revenues for Q2 of FY2026. Normal operations have since resumed, with the new 600 MW line now fully functional.
Sohan Lal Agarwal, Managing Director of Websol Energy System Limited, commented on the development “This expansion marks a significant step forward in Websol’s growth strategy. With this new 600 MW line, we are deepening our commitment to developing an end-to-end, high-efficiency solar manufacturing ecosystem in India. The added capacity positions us to better serve the domestic market and supports the Government’s mission of building a self-reliant clean energy sector.”
As one of India’s early players in photovoltaic manufacturing, Websol continues to focus on high-efficiency Mono PERC technology. Its solar cells are predominantly supplied to Indian module manufacturers, enabling compliance with Domestic Content Requirement (DCR) policies. Websol’s own modules are distributed both within India and internationally, catering to a broad customer base.
The company’s facility, spread over approximately seven acres within the Falta Special Economic Zone, now houses 1.2 GW of solar cell capacity and 550 MW of module capacity. Websol’s integrated production approach—spanning both cell and module manufacturing—offers strong control over quality and supply chain operations. With robust partnerships, a well-capitalized business model, and alignment with government initiatives encouraging domestic manufacturing and clean energy adoption, Websol is well positioned to advance its roadmap toward multi-gigawatt scale operations and further contribute to India’s transition to renewable energy.
