Wabash has announced the launch of a new integrated cargo protection system at Manifest 2026 in Las Vegas. The patent-pending solution combines a digitally enabled cargo door and intelligent locking mechanism with the TrailerHawk.AI platform, linking physical access control with live visibility and verified assurance events aimed at reducing cargo theft.
Cargo theft continues to pose a serious risk across the U.S. supply chain. According to research released by the American Transportation Research Institute in October 2025, losses linked to cargo theft may reach as high as USD 6.6 billion annually. Wabash’s new offering is designed to help shippers, carriers, and third-party logistics providers move from reactive loss management to earlier risk detection by establishing verified access, exception alerts, and a documented chain of custody.
Unlike conventional security measures such as disposable seals or passive trackers, the Wabash solution integrates purpose-built hardware with a connected digital platform. By securing multiple control points at the cargo door and enabling encrypted communication, the system supports in-transit monitoring and timely intervention, turning cargo protection into an active, managed process rather than a passive one.
The solution also addresses coordinated or “strategic” theft scenarios, where legitimate drivers may be unknowingly involved due to fragmented information flows. By validating driver identity and carrier relationships and tying those checks directly to physical door access, the system strengthens control at handoff points. According to Brett Suma, Managing Director at Wabash, customers are already seeing improvements by connecting digital identity, physical access, and custody tracking into a single workflow.
TrailerHawk.AI’s digital assurance workflows are currently in use through mobile applications supporting inspections, verification, and asset visibility. The cargo assurance solution will initially be offered as a retrofit for TaaS Pools in 2026, followed by availability on new Wabash trailers and retrofit options beginning in 2027. Live demonstrations and a breakout session led by Suma will take place during Manifest 2026 at Booth #1513.
